sorry, I wasnt trying to come in this thread trying to hate, I probably shouldnt of even said anything, I just remember the first photos and thinking how rad they looked.

I was lucky to score the very first set and I think they are fucking rad, imo so far among the best releases of the year for sure. After that the various colourways gradually lost their darkness, moving toward brighter vinyls so they may have lost their appeal to the eyes of some. Personally I find the combination of dark tones, the demonic feel and the b-movie monster tribute are all awesome aspects to have wraped up in one toy.

For me, the merit of these toys has little to do with the dark colors. Although I agree the dark colors are very nice, I don't believe they lose anything with the use of lighter colored vinyls. It's the nostalgic feel, the chunkiness of the sculpts and the scifi vibe that do it for me. Like others have said before, I think some of them actually appeal more to me on the lighter vinyls. For instance, the gold lame AstroKong and Zombie Kong look amazing. Contrasting the bright vinyl with the dark paint. And the red lame base vinyl fits perfect with Mutant X.
The only versions that haven't really excited me were the blue and gold SF 59 versions. I am not a big fan of blue and gold as a color combo...

how hard is it to pick up the original set? Anyone looking to trade?

Slow dooowwwn! But holy crap, is that blue ever pretty (especially that Zombie Kong -- BOING!).

My favorite is, again, the Astrokong. With the Star X and Space X a close second. This blue lame vinyl is striking for sure! Seems like these are all one of a kind? Only one of each released via YJA. At least so far.

The caption on that pic translates for me as: (roughly) These are not released via Dept. H, instead I released them through Yahoo.

I agree! The previous Dept H version was a Green(ish) version that is very elusive also, but I don't believe these are them or that their are others. If you know something I don't about how I can acquire one I'd love to

Your description of what it translate is correct. But what I believe it means is that these are not for any upcoming Dept H event and would be sold thru YJA. Also I made an error stating March release. I meant April releases for the blue glitter versions for Dept H.

Dept H events are held once sometimes twice monthly. Toy companies like Marmit/SHB love to on occassions do surprise secret releases for events on top of the ones they advertise for the event. These pictures following were officially uploaded on April 20 by Akamatsu-san himself right before the April 25 Dept H event which released the Mutant Alien green glitter versions and brown blue Kong versions. If you go back a page someone uploaded a blue glitter version 3 weeks ago which was from a Mandarake sale. The blue glitter version I believe were for the April 25 Dept H event as secrets. I started seeing the blue glitter floating around for sales at Mandarake online shop and auctions listed as Dept H few days right after the 25th Dept H event. But I do notice that the current pic on the blog there is slight color variation on the Mutant versions with the ones in this pic. But the Kong's are exactly the same in the pics I posted.

I do remember seeing the blue lame Mutant X posted in this thread, and at Mandarake. Sold for crazy Yen... But yeah, I thought the paint was different as well. But those Apes do look the same. In any case, loving this blue vinyl! Glad there may be more. And some hope for future acquisition. Thanks for the info Chimply.

It looks slightly different to me...if you look at the chicken fever head guy (Not sure his name)...his belly has blue spray only.

Compare it to the other. It looks like his belly and legs have brown spray on them.

Just got my green glitter Mutant-X. I really like the size of these and the vinyl is super squishy.

Wow tough call. But it's likely if these were small runs he might have experimented a bit with the paint across figures. Making every one a little unique.
