Roger that was brilliant. To take it a step further, T-Rex, the inspiration for the form that Gojira took, walked what is now the Americas but not what became Japan. Goddarnit, that's a 'MERICAN dinosaur! Yee-haw!
3x3is9 wrote: And Star Wars was inspired by Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress.... so once again this conversation is cyclical.
The Jedi were inspired by the priests in "The Samurai Trilogy," C-3PO and R2D2 were inspired in part by characters in "The Hidden Fortress," but "Star Wars" more generally was inspired by serial "space opera" viz. Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers as well as the early swashbuckling genre.
Bah, whatever. xenophobia sucks and this isn't the first time I've heard that about the Bemon guy. Better toy makers don't mind that "those overseas" appreciate their work. I doubt if this will faze the Bemon collectors at all. Japanese xenophobia is well-known but they are hardly the only country to have issues with it. Take a look at any online discussion of illegal immigration to the USA to see some really hateful garbage, or visit me in my very American neighborhood to be treated with disgust and disdain by the immigrant families there who have a vehement anti-American bias. IMHO racism and xenophobia not only suck no matter who's hating on whom, but the very impulses are sorely outdated in today's global reality.
Be a man, Bemon man. Share the pollution!

For some reason I get a kick out of knowing the Bemon guy hates americans. Almost makes me want them more...knowing he doesn't approve. How fitting that I got a box of 2 Bemons just before reading this
I figure the Japanese (and many others) have valid reasons to hate the USA, just wish they would direct the hate at the appropriate individuals. Someone should wipe Washington D.C. off the fucking planet already.

This homeboy is pro- unity. Xenophobia and racism is the downfall of the human race imo.
I've been in some serious brawls with Nazi skins and some Sharps and violence isn't the answer either. I love my Bemon and I love doing the paintings.
Now that I got that off my chest, I will be doing some Bemon knockoffs in resin and prints of the Bemon and Uncle Sam holding hands Bemon rulez!

Will Americans be less inclined to collect Bemons now knowing what you know now? Interesting to hear a comment like that from a Japanese... usually it's the other way round...
Sell me yours
I love what the Flight of the Conchords have to say about "the man". Cracks me up every time.

Following another tack:
- If there were no Godzilla, there probably wouldn't be an Aurora Godzilla model kit.
- If there were no Aurora Godzilla model kit, there probably wouldn't be a Marusan Godzilla toy.
- If there were no Marusan Godzilla toy, there probably wouldn't have been a kaiju sofubi boom in the 60s.
- If there was no kaiju sofubi boom in the 60s, there probably wouldn't have been a kaiju sofubi resurgence in the 90s.
- If there was no kaiju sofubi resurgence in the 90s, there probably wouldn't be a Bemon.
So both of our cultures are caught up in an endless cycle of war, love, hate, and poly vinyl chloride. Given that the whole thing starts with a horrific act of violence there's bound to be some prejudice somewhere.
Gawd-damn Rog, its so clear now.....its like.....6 degrees of Godzilla or somethin'...

I would buy 2x of them if you made em all "Stars and Stripes" colorway like our old uncle sam's hat. Hit the intolerant where it hurts most, the wallet!

well, to be honest...in 25 years of involvement with the underground and overground art , design, music, film etc scene..and now toys..I have never met 1 sungle 'american' artist or creative type that 'this is for americans only'....yet I have met , well, quite a few Japanese and European artists who say 'not for foriegner'...or 'not for american'.
pretty silly...when you consider that there are no 'americans'...all of the people on this continent ( including native tribes') camer over here from over there, and most of them quite recently.
At its base, having spent a lot of time in Europe ( 17 years) and japan ( maybe 2 years total over many small times),,it's more of a 'class' thing for europeans ( americans are lower class and a 'race' thing for the Japanese. I have found even the most 'mellow' people in Japan are pretty blatantly racist and xenophobic once they figure they can relax around you.

Weird, Doesn't S7 get the longneck stuff wholesale? And didn't Toytokyo get some Bemon's while back?
The Japanese are buying up American culture by the boatload (old Levi's, Star Wars toys etc.) , I think they least they can do is give us a few monsters.

I may or may not but I'm not going to wish an entire US state wiped off the map for it I'm sure you didn't mean it literaly but the ring of that statement sounded totally wack. I may or may not like who's running the country right now but the US has been very good to me and I love her.
You are lucky to be living in a country where comments like that wont get you killed or imprisoned. My father in law was in politics and was an elected official in the Philipines during the 70's and someone there didn't like some of his views. He was lucky to get an advance warning and was able to flee here with his immediate family in the US with just what they where able to pack. His running mate wasn't soo lucky. He was in prison for a long time and supposed to have been released in the mid 80's but my father inlaw was not able to trace his wareabouts. The poor guys family is still looking for him to this day.

people that have grown up here and have not had to actually live in other places as a non tourist, but as an actual resident have absolutley no clue as to how awesome they have it. I grew up in a Fascist Dictatorship, and lemme tell you USA is paradise.
hate 'america' go spend a decade living somewhere else of your choice as a 'normal person that works a job' and then report back.
