Re: Hirota Saigansho: Gorilla-ju & Mecha Gorilla-ju
Anyone know the deal with this? It's actually vintage correct? Not just a funny angle and rough paint? Maybe I missed info on it in the past.

Cool. It's interesting to see the size of it. I just noticed that pic in the other thread. Should do my research before posting! ha ha.

KaosHead wrote: One thing I'm always curious about is the back story for figures like this. It's got something to do with the original King Kong lore, no? But, there's the Bandai soldier and the natives in general have something else to it. Perhaps it's something obvious that I'm missing, so I'd like to learn. Can't say for sure. But I am guessing that the Gorilla-ju and the natives are surrounded by the King Kong lore. The banzai soldier has a different story which I explain when I updated the database for the Mecha Gorilla Ju section. These are the updates I made today: Picture of the omake missile and banzai soldier for the second release. Hirota-san creation of the banzai soldier is in reference to the banzai charge battle cry when soldiers would rush their enemy yelling out fiercely "banzai." This battle cry was to instill fear into the enemy of the oncoming charge of the fearless Japanese soldier that was willing to accept death than defeat. Banzai is a traditional Japanese exclamation meaning "Ten thousand years." Poor banzai soldier, he doesn't stand a chance against Mecha Gorilla-Ju. The omake (extra/bonus) missle for the third release of Mecha Gorilla-ju is made of a glow in the dark vinyl. Many of the omake for this third release are painted in different variations as shown from the following pictures:

Re: Hirota Saigansho: Gorilla-ju & Mecha Gorilla-ju
I added the following update to the database on the first page: Mecha Gorilla-ju Rumor Origins Currently I have labelled this as rumor as I cannot find confirm it with a direct source from HS. We can certainly see where the influences of the Mecha Gorilla-ju comes from. I'll let you decide if Hirota-san got his inspiration from Robot Kong disection drawing that appeared in a book. "The King Kong Show" animation tv show broadcasted from September 10, 1966 to August 31, 1969 in the USA first. It was also broadcasted a few months later in Japan. It feature a mad scientist named Dr. Who who created Robot Kong. Mechani Kong from the 1967 film King Kong Escapes was influence from the anime show character Dr Who and Robot Kong. This picture of Robot Kong may have been Hirota Saigansho influence of his Mecha Gorilla-ju vinyl figure. The picture shows the mad scientist Dr Who, And Robot Kong fighting King Kong. I believe the above picture is from this book titled "Kaiju Anatomy Picture Book" from the 70's? I might be wrong. I'm trying to find out for sure. Sato-san of Target Earth has come out with his version and a take on Robot Kong. Controversy seems to be surrounding Target Earths version of being a rip-off of HS Mecha Gorilla-ju recent release and popularity. TE version seems to be a mix concept of both Robot Kongs from the 60s anime and anatomy picture. If anyone has more accurate info on this, it would be appreciated. Thanks.

Looks like I picked the wrong week to buy artwork from a local festival to decorate in my apt. Thought these would hold till September. Oh well there will always be another.

Re: Hirota Saigansho: Gorilla-ju & Mecha Gorilla-ju
this was info i translated after asking questions to property owners in regards to multiple vendors. please do not make fun of the wording its direct:
"Works for all original plastic doll other times also, like Marmit are allowed to commercialize them from limited production and of open market.
Target Earth like other Japanese company involved, has received permission from commercialization of property character owner made in Japan"
btw afaik the vintage mid size gorilla was a product of Mego by way of the sculpt with either Onda or Bullmark. after the 1976 stint was up, it was never made so bootlegs began.

Goddamn, that red Mecha is amazing. All the Mechas, really. But that one in particular. Sucks I'll probably never own one.

I'm sure it's too late but I actually had a huge sale today totally funding my paypal (Why this could not have happened this weekend is beyond me). Sent a email tonight, who knows. Doubt anything will happen but the listing is still up. Maybe someone will flake on payment..

I'm not lucky. I think I would have been bummed to get the cyborg. Do not like.

Re: Hirota Saigansho: Gorilla-ju & Mecha Gorilla-ju
I wouldn't worry, as we all say: "they'll be more". If the mecha ju is anything like gorilla ju, we'll see more versions. Green, pink, etc etc...

Re: Hirota Saigansho: Gorilla-ju & Mecha Gorilla-ju
Is the pic seriously something other then the Mecha Gorilla? For some reason those pics don't work for me about half the time. What is this "cyborg"?
