man i would eat a handful of maggots to see concept art of my favorite vintage 70s toys. Sad but true most designer folks from that era are now dead and/or all their art is lost in the world and/or no longer exists. Coop, will you please share your concept drawings with those of us who would dig a chance to check 'em out?

As in this thread has been drama from page one or as in lets mess with the noobs by telling they have to suck off people in bathrooms to get one? I read most but must admit to some skimming. I like the jokes but some people seem genuinely not to like this toy.

You amaze me. We all really should be humbled to have one such as you allow us to share the same Internet.

Truth be told, the doll eye head is kinda interesting. It's a little less grotesque, and the doll eyes fit the multi-media weirdness of the Nag pretty well. Heaven help any of you with a dissentig opinion or some constructive criticism you'd like to discuss.

Disagree! I think this head is MUCH creepier than the first (two) heads. Sort of looks like the first one got it on with Garamon, and the baby unfortunately had a few problems with the chromosomes.

I love it though! Shig is doing a great job with what he's been producing; working hard too! Sure its tough getting a nag, but I think that's another fun aspect of toy collecting in general. I think this hobby would be a little less fun if some degree of frustration wasn't there.

COOP, just wondering, have you (or anyone else) showed Shig the other fan art from different boardies? And thanks for helping him develop this idea!

Not sure why anyone would want to bash the artist here. Production costs couldn't possibly be that cheap making just a few pieces here and there. Think of all the time it takes to paint the nags.

The last two prototype nags Shigeru gave away for free as gifts, that gets a star in my books.

He wasn't discussing the figure itself, pro or con - he made a snarky comment about Shig's output as a toy manufacturer.

How would you feel if evilrabbitry made that original comment about your own work? Would it be dickish if he were complaining about your output instead of Shigeru's?

Shigeru does look at the board, I'm sure he has seen all the artwork that everyone has created.

There were a couple of sketches, but this is the one that came close to the final version. Our working process was that Shigeru would describe what he wanted to do, then I would do a sketch, then he would come back with more suggestions. Shigeru wanted some cues from Garamon, and four eyes. I tried to throw a bunch of other crazy stuff in for further inspiration.

I'm really happy with the final sculpt. Shigeru had a pretty specific idea of what he wanted from the beginning, and I hope that I helped to crystallize it into the final sculpt.

The upper level nose... doesn't look like a "nose."

Coop - your sketch has almost an old Jack Davis/EC comics vibe.
I like how Shigeru's sculpt adapted it but kept the texture similiar to the body. The 4 eyes gives it a trippiness, like a Bruce Bickford claymation creature.

LOVE this new head, simple as that

The unsymmetrical eyes on this new Nag head remind me more of "Sloth" from Goonies or the Toxic Avenger than Garamon. The concept of staggered eyes I like but as a whole the design doesn't work for me especially with the use of doll eyes. I would have liked to have seen the notion of a mutant Garamon pushed further or a design of a more human persona like the first Nag. The original head has a really creepy look to it, but it captures a soulfulness that I really liked. And I have to concur with some of the other comments, a soulfulness captured mostly by the original Nag head eyes. This new head completely lacks that type of execution and vibe for me.

I look forward to seeing what Shigeru does next.

I think the opinions on this one are interesting. I think it's way creepier, totally has a weird stop-frame animation feel to me. My wife, who fucking hates Nag stuff thinks it's cute though and my 20 month old daughter, who has no current opinion on Nag when shown, laughs when she sees this versions pic and gets all psyched.

To me there's a lot going on with the new eyes. I've always loved the addition of some sort of actual eye whether it was the discs on the Hedorans or Chaos' doll eye. I think they add an extra dimension. Not to say I dislike painted eyes, or the earlier Nags. Again, I think I like all 3 for some of the same reasons and some totally different reasons.

I think if the original Boryoku Genjin had just one additional doll eye at the back of the head, everyone would go crazy.

Like we're not already.

Carl summed it up nicely in his response to your question. Iggy Pop is one of the best singer songwriters to ever walk the face of the earth and Raw Power is an absolute classic. Its a cool tribute. Why do you care?
