Re: A Nag Pa I Root
I like Nags enough, but I simply don't understand the cost from a logical perspective. I get it, hype, but I don't understand how Rich can produce huge 13" toys and keep them under $200, whereas a Nagball is $350 and a Nag is $800???

Re: A Nag Pa I Root
The price of vinyl or size of the fig has nothing to do with it. Look at those new mammoth zenith pieces, theyre only like $400. Or why can one painter charge $5k for a painting and anothercan get $500k? Art is not logical

That's been the new norm on one-offs, surprised to see that price point on a run. Maybe they are all one-offs.

I think even Kozik himself admits everything he paints is a one-off

I hope they keep driving up the prices and hype. It keeps attention off things I want and on this atrocity and the hype herd mentality. Its works out well so far. Scary Andy wrote: . . . almost as funny as the $850 price tag!

Re: A Nag Pa I Root
of course they are all 1 offs..even with paint masks its a physical process subject to the vagaries of time temp paint mix vinyl substrate solvent content farts sneezes etc.
and, for those of you that are into Shigs work, the proceeds from these and the johhny ryan ones is going into making a new movie.
more info as i recieve it.

Re: A Nag Pa I Root
The bubble for prices on the Nags is very interesting. I wish I understood more about all of this to try and come up with my own theories for these prices.
All that said, I'm glad some are making enough cash to make a living just on these alone. He is a very talented artist, I just think that the body is due for a change.
Im not even going to pursue a Nag in the future with these prices, but I do love seeing his paint apps so I'll keep to pictures only.

Re: A Nag Pa I Root
I seriously doubt Shig is making enough money to support himself selling Nags, despite the price. Hopefully he makes enough to cover his travel to the US. Better a higher price to compensate him for his painting of them than to sell them for much less only to see some flipped soon after for a much higher price.
Still, if he ever decides to do an open run unpainted for much less money, that would be great.

Re: A Nag Pa I Root
Not saying it's a great price but he could just start selling them all on ebay and let the same 3 guys pay 2k for them.

The first few runs when nag3 sold them physically via cosmo cafe were 9000yen each. Missed those fun days when you can have a beer, enjoy live music and then buy a nag fuss free.

Considering the fast pace of one-off releases since the last months, the rising price of regular releases, I would rather say, to my calculation, that he can live pretty well only with his Nags. I'd recommend him to raise the price further, it seems to stop nobody.

I know this won't be a popular response but I say good for Shig. I mean if people are willing to pay that price why not? I'll prolly never own one because of that price but it's great seeing an artist actually get paid for their talent.

I'm not part of the demographic that would casually drop that type of scrilla on a toy... maybe, tho still reluctantly, on a long term grail like the OG snake-skin Boogie... but not on something brand new, no matter how much I liked it. But if I had a shit ton of disposable cash, I'm sure I would... it's all relative. And sure, the hype and inflated prices definitely trim the applicable audience down to only those who can afford that type of luxury. And although that blows for the majority of fans who sit below that type of financial standing, they aren't the ones putting the creativity and effort into the product that brought about a successful business. That was Shigeru. If I were him, I'd be stoked to have reached that level of success. And if it enabled me to turn a hobby I was passionate about into a career I was passionate about, I'd fucking roll with it, hands down.

The good thing about the folks that do have the disposable cash, they are always after the newest/greatest thing. They will move on and then dump their NAGS...just like they did with Secret Base, RxH, and BEMON (well not the 2 headed...yet).

Re: A Nag Pa I Root
I feel it will still be a great while before $850 nags drop below retail though. The 2-3x aftermaket may die off but theyll hold value imo. But wtf do i know?
