the bruised set is really awesome, and the minis are pretty kewl, but I'm really into the regular random colorway fight figures. This new Bigaro is my favorite in the line--aside from the impossible metallic painted GID ones from the early days. I noticed you do rotate your collection quite a bit. Re: New RxH up
yeah, it's changed a lot over the last year! it was up to 25--then down to 8, then it grew again, then shrank down to 6 figs, then grew again. There was a lot of feeling-out to do so I could figure out what I really wanted and liked. It's come along better than I imagined in the last few months. Unfortunately, it's been a struggle to stick to my budget. I guess, I'm having too much fun.
It doesn't help that every time I say "ok, after I get this one, I'll stop", Mori bust out a great new colorway on a great figure. Last year it was easy to dip in and out, and collect other things; the output was tame and it seemed like a lot of the colorways were "meh", but I like his new stuff so much that I decided to stick with his work.
Now I look at my collection and say "OK, I have a lot of these. let me see what I can let go". But I really like each piece on its own, so it's a matter of figuring out what works for the collection as a whole.
I think with the nature of the scene nowadays (like someone mentioned--everyone competing for the new releases, then seeing them sell down the road at retail or less) it will be easier to take a break without worrying that a missed figure will end up costing you 3x retail two months from the release date.

 Re: New RxH up
this happens every year after SDCC. people get worn out and bored with everything.
i grabbed the rxh mini set, but keeping up with minis is too much work and effort not to mention too costly.
full size figures i knew i would never even come close with being complete, but picking one or two figures and sticking with those makes it a bit easier. there is too much coming out right now from all of these companies. i'm personally slowing way down on buying mostly because i'm going to Japan in 6 months and i want to be able to buy some fun stuff while there.
and the comments like "rxh is all hype" and "is secret base the new rxh?" seem a bit odd to me. they're all good companies, why can't people just like stuff for what it is rather than the brand attached to it? I know the answer to this question, but it definitely makes you think about reasoning behind making purchases. Do you like the paint scheme or the sculpt? Or do you like it because everyone else wants one?
also to the slew of hype comments i've been seeing lately, hype is inevitable in a hobby like this. it's limited edition stuff, it's based on hype. the naysayers who complain about it all are completely guilty of it as well because you probably hype something else, whether it's music, sneakers, clothing, whatever.
that's how this culture seems to work. it's all about numbers, edition sizes, paints..buy what you really like and ignore the "hype" as it were.

I would've taken the GID 18" preorder if I wasn't such a broke-ass.

 Re: New RxH up
for those without the cash to spend on one of these monsters, there are some cool little minis that are out there too for cheap cheap. Giant Robot had them and I picked one up for like $4 or $5..theyre blindbox. the gid ones are beauties, but i only have enough room for two figures this tall...

 Re: New RxH up
There is a bigger selection at the store, it's true. I don't know but would guess that those sell better as in-person impulse buys. There are a few stores on Clement Street in SF that carry them, too. Fun stuff. I don't "collect" them but buy some now and then just for fun. Definitely makes you feel like a kid ... "I wonder what I got?" Last one I bought was a Bandai "dancing Godzilla." I was pretty pleased to luck out with that one.

As for where are the RxH fans...I guess SDCC was a bigger wallet/cc destroyer that anticipated and folks are still recovering.

 Re: New RxH up
I'm not gonna quote atease's big rant because it's a few posts up, but a big +1 to it. SDCC kills, some interest dies, rapid fire small runs hurt and people get tired of "hype" talk. Blah Blah Blah, if you're really into the toys themselves you won't care what others think.
I want that Bigaro hard, but I'm not NOT buying it because of hype or lack of, I'm NOT buying it because I've got to save up money and it's not worth the struggle to get it and have to eat Ramen all month. The Bruised set, however, WAS worth the Ramen all month.
Most are just passing now, I think, because of the slew of releases from other companies, many WENT to SDCC and that trip and hotel hurt, and most gotta recover a bit. To rack it up to just hype/lack of hype is a little cheap.
