That wold thing is a contender for best new sculpt this year. So cool and fun.

Agreed! Altar Beast looks awesome... this is the first I'm seeing of it. Is it from something, or an original creation for the toy?

Well I hope PK doesn't reveal all at SDCC (so by all means Paul, take your time  ). For the unlucky rest of us who can never attend, here's to crossing the fingers for some special items at Superfest!!

I would be willing to skip Comic Con once for a year of Japanese Toy Festivals. :D

It is an original idea that i worked on with artist mark rudolph who does a lot of illustrations for decibel magazine. My inspiration was mostly Fruit Brute, jack Kirbys Hulk and jack davis EC comic covers. I wanted to make a 2 piece figure to keep it at a lower price point.

The Kirby Hulk is definitely there... came out awesome! Will have to check out some of Rudolph's art.

Uh, I wasn't referring to you guys not having friends. I was just suggesting putting your own events together in your area. None of the people I know in Philly (Missy and Skylar,Ramos) are out going to japanese vinyl events around Philly, but yes they do share that one (of many interests) with me.

My point was more that I see them having a great time and not really having too much difficulty finding toy shows to go to, along with other stuff to do with other toy nerds in the area. The message board comment was in regards to finding other people who might not necessarily post 7 days a week about things going on.

There aren't any shops here in Boston either, I just make it a point to meet people who are likeminded and hang out with them on a regular basis. Most of the time it's lowkey events like godzilla movie marathons or dinner and a movie at someone's house. I try to have people over once every couple of months just so we can trade and have a nice time together.

just some suggestions to make your own community if there isn't enough of one in your area.

I think the WTHN shop closed, that's too bad..they stocked SB as I recall.

Now that I think of it, didn't that toy shop just open in Baltimore that gojigirl's son operates? That isn't far at all, and there are more toy nerds down there.

Nice to see I'm still relevant! :) Philly never had a huge scene for Japanese vinyl, but that's why Skylar and I got on an airplane and went to SDCC, Kimono My House, and Super 7 for our toys. :) If you need it more regularly, you gotta fly or move. If you are staying on the east coast, NYC is your best bet, but the only real shop out here is Toy Tokyo. I miss you guys & SDCC, We're gonna be in CA within the month for the D23 expo, but missing comic con this year because of it. Have fun dudes!

I am definitely feeling the EC vibe off that guy. Really great work.

And I have to second the props on that All-Star poster. Ralph Niese did an amazing job with the character line-up. Love it!!

Dude you realize 99% of the toys on here are an homage to some classic/vintage toy/comic/movie right? Are Gargamel/BxH/Secret Base/S7 lazy too? Gotta boost that post count before you get to be all "hardcore" like that

 Before you talk shit about the release and call something crappy...why don't read the whole blurb. The alter beast is a mascot for MW and that was the original idea that he was referencing.

The Transformation print from months ago from Rudolph however was a direct play on the Hulk transformation. They openly credit it and state it in the sales link.
TRANSFORMATION
19×10.5″ 5-color screen print
Lavish 5-color screen print on French’s Paper. Limited run of 54 hand numbered and signed by the artist, Mark Rudolph. The Transformation is a play on the Jack Kirby Hulk transformation sequence from the 60s. The character is a mascot I designed for Monster Worship, a producer of limited edition vinyl toys, art prints and apparel. (Limited to 13 copies) Price includes shipping.

LOL you sound so disappointed like you were looking forward to this before it was even announced and then let down, almost seems personal?

How would this PANEL be a HOMAGE if it didn't have the same layout and design?
"This piece is homage to one of my favorite panels of Jack Kirby's Hulk, and introduces the world to one of Monster Worship's newest characters, the Altar Beast! "
