I use ghost for imaging but that's it. their security software is bloatware and sucks up cpu resources (in my experience).

I've used Norton A/V for many years and it saved several computers from trojans. However, it's true that it's a resource hog, a bit intrusive at times, and can conflict with other applications, although I've never had a serious problem with this. I have noticed that once it's installed, Windows takes longer to boot up and sometimes much longer to shut down.
Are you having some problem with Norton Data?

+1. You can try NOD32, good and effective.

I recently tried their security suite, signed this laptop up a few months back, and never again.
Bloated, slow, conflicts ... for instance, when it's in the middle of a full systems scan, it will not stop the scan until it finishes with whatever file it's currently scanning - and in the case of a big file, that can be a long time.
Plus there is NO way to easily and temporarily turn off the service (when installing new software or whatever) - unlike the others I've used, there is no easy option to simply shut all monitoring etc. down temporarily - you have to go through endless arcane menus and shut down each part individually.
It's generally a mess, I don't have much good to say about Norton security. (Though McAfee, with its tendency to corrupt OE Inbox .dbx files, may be even worse - that one irretreivably lost me 3 years of emails on my desktop back home a couple of months back.) It's been years since I have tried/used the Norton 'shell' software (I assume they still sell it, I can't even remember the name now), but that was a pain too.

That's a really good point and my principle frustration with it. Sometimes when my comp is processing a high-poly 3D render I want to turn off all needless processes via Task Manager. Most if not all of the Norton components refuse to turn off. Idiotic.
EDIT: I must be slow on the uptake today. I just saw what forum this thread is in LOL.

Norton know that the last version of their software sucked so they have completely re-written it and now (accordin to them) its faster and stronger with out being a resource hog.

Based on my prior experience with norton security (5 or 6 years ago) they make it ridiculously difficult to completely uninstall their crappy software. Just google "norton security uninstal." There are many better options available.

yep, I can get a great deal on Norton software -- so if anyone wants to trade old real x Head figures for software let me know.. JUST KIDDING!!!!
About a month ago one my designer friends here in Tokyo called me up and asked me if I wanted to Brainstorm with him on a new campaign for the upcoming Norton software releases. We came up with a crazy idea, threw it out there and the client loved it. Secrity software is boring and in Japan its a fairly crowded field of reather faceless players. Norton used to have the good doctor (Dr. Norton) but various reasons they are trying to fade him out. our idea: Norton software is like a kick-ass hero kicking ass over all the internet security threats out there. Mori and I worked on developing the hero and all the enemies in kind of old school tokusatsu stylee. The project exploded size wise, there will be an event with performance at Yodobashi Camera in Akihabara on Saturday/Sunday, there will be web videos, and the client has decided to use the hero in print advertisements and other places. and of course we are hoping that there will be toys.
Considering that this all came together in a month its pretty amazing it looks as good as it does, theres room for improvement but if keeps growing it could really be big - or not. You know how fickle the public can be.
Tomorrow I will post some pics of Norton Fighter.

If not a Norton Fighter (or a cookie) then can I get a packet of KT Special Rice Crackers because I really do use Norton's and it kicks the shit out of my computer's viruses before it even gets them.

Congratulations!
Hey, I'm willing to believe Norton's fixed the problems since I got mine.
Either way, who cares, I'm just glad that you two will get to take a nice long slurp at the corporate teat.
I can't wait to see the corporate-approved guy! And, if the character(s) indeed cross over into other merchandising (which seems to be even more common, and happen more quickly, in Japan than here) then who knows where this could end. Even so, a month from zero to this point seems pretty amazing.
That's seriously great news - Thanks for sharing it, and I'll look forward to the progress pics.
