Um, so what is the question?
If it's, "where does the skull kun design come from?"...it's Hikaru's interpretation of the skeleton or "x-ray" version of frankenberry. There is an article about this in some magazine called Super7 .

Adding to the question:
How rare are Skull Kuns? I dont see them offered often (not yet on the boards at least). A few this moring on Mandrake but they are a bit costly for me. Does S7 ever get them?

If you use YJA, they are fairly plentiful. Except for a couple very rare/valuable ones (orange dx or smoky grey screwbiter maybe), their values have been sliding for awhile, IMO.

not really a single question. i guess yes, i want to know where the design came from... if it appeared anywhere before as a toy... stuff like that

There have also been more than a few t-shirts with skull kun on them, but I think the toy came first.

I've seen this guy sealed for pretty cheap not too long ago, but you can see wear on the figure from someone not taking care of him in the bag

kuns very nice but better take care as lots of fakes on yja.
also one major ebay seller sends out both real ones and fake.
so mandarake always been my first choice, even if its 20 $ more.
was wondering, some older pieces always up for sale and even sealed for years...

This is the first that I've heard about BxH fakes. Is there any more information of this? Is it just the Skull Kuns and if so is there anything to look for?
Recently learned that Kun means "Friend"...

Really? Search function, hello . There were some discussions here awhile back about kun fakes. I think usually the fake kuns have shiny as opposed to matte finish in addition to crappy paint apps. Also only some of the official kun releases came with the "laser matrix number" on the foot...makes it fairly confusing.
There are lots of fakes of the sharks and some others, but those are pretty easy to spot.

hard to tell from fotos
theres a midle size fake ahiru kun
guess there is a lot black/white skull kun ko fakes that look
a little more glossy than the real ones.
in general bxh plastic bags have these special patina, like a little dusted not all clear, thinking fakes are clear
also most colorful kuns (apart from red/white fukuoaka special) should have the laser number on their foot.

yeah I wouldn't buy a kun if the paint looked at all sloppy. The real ones are pretty close to perfect.

the laser etched dot matrix on the foot. I know for a fact there are fake Kuns and fake Labbits out there, I have handled a few.
also..some of the 'bootlegs' are actually from the 'real mold and run' but where 'overrun' and NOT etched, so in effect, other than the number exactly the same.
Medicom and BxH I know had to change factories around 2001 due to these bootleg overruns.
There was also a real crappy kun bootleg with real lame hands so BxH made the ' Scum' Kun a legit bootleg of the original bootleg.

i like the skum.... particularly the hands.
so what's the deal exactly?
the bootlegs had hands like that and the skum is a bootleg of the bootleg?
is it pretty close to the bootleg?
shit how can i know if my figures are bootlegs?

Wha? I've bought a lot of stuff from Bounty Hunter with all clear bags.
Also, people have been flipping the toys for ages, so finding still sealed, older pieces isn't weird.
Don't get me wrong though, there are a ton of boots out there! In addition to this thread, as the_z wrote, there were some previous discussions with info.

Basically I have no idea if my red pair is legit or not, but it has the same matte finish as the legit ones, paint looks good, and they came with bags, so that's good enough for me, lol.
