Post Walder tribute or walder ripoff?
So i woke up unreasonably early on sunday and turned on the tv. There was a show called super robot monkey team on, which looked interesting compared to all the churchy shows.

Turns out the super monkey's arch-nemesis is called the Skeleton King which peaked my interest. What made me even more interested was his transparent purple body with free-floating guts!!! At first i couldn't believe it. Am i wrong, or is dokuro king translate into skeleton king? I always thought that it did.

I went on the net and saw a few more pics and also discovered a toy of the character which i then went and grabbed from toys r us.

The more i look at it, the more i am conflicted. Is it a tribute or is it a ripoff? Admittedly, there's some things different, but there's some compelling similarities.

Well, I'm not sure where you draw the line between "tribute" and "ripoff". The character is obviously "inspired" by the good ol' "dokuro king"...

Yes, I think it is meant as a tribute. The show has many references to sentai shows and Japanese heroes, and the 70s super robots and so forth.

I actually tried to spread the word about this very cool toy, but apparently did it wrong. >_<

Please take a look on the Secret Base forum under post "new toy of possible interest".

I had put it there so that the SB collectors would see it, but no one seemed to care.

Oh well, take a look.

Nice photos!

The toy is cool, but needs a cape. ^_^

That looks pretty close, I'd say tribute.

Pretty cool toy for TRU.

I mentioned this ages ago when I came across it on TV one morning. It's a funny show, and Skeleton King certainly is a nod to Dokuro King. I wouldn't say rip off at all though. Don't forget where much of the inspiration for SB and the others come from.
