Assemble Borg

Sun Aug 16, 2009 5:24 am

a while ago I had dropped this post about some pretty killer (and expensive) vinyl. akum6n had mentioned Assemble Borg as an alternative, which I forgot about until flipping through the latest Dengenki Hobby mag where they had some photos of the new figures...

Personally, I think these guys are way cooler than the Marmit Busters. They're small, but they have tons of cool accessories and are basically original Revoltech figures, so they're super poseable. I don't collect them myself, but they're look like a ton of fun. I like some of the figure designs as well... very neo-retro. If I was going to start picking up a line just to mess around with as finger candy, these guys would probably be it.

Wow!

posing revoltech figures re a pain. i saw the first group that went for sale over SDCC and they were really nice but if i did pick them up, they might just stay in the box.

I think it depends on the figure, some of them don't turn out so well, but others are great. I've got the first Raoh (from Fist of the North Star), and he's so top-heavy that its pretty much impossible to do anything with him. He's basically only good for falling over and his waist joint isn't nearly as tight at it should be. But the Rei and Asuka from Evangelion are great, no problem at all to pose (I've got one of them chilling on a Dokugan as we speak  ). Dunno about the Borgs, though, since I haven't actually messed around with any myself.

Re: Assemble Borg

Whoa, I totally missed those at WF! The first ones were so-so, I thought the designs were good for what they were but I wasn't blown away. But the new green guy with the claw and the purple Nightgaunt (I don't care what anyone says there's no way that thing isn't a Nightgaunt) are probably going to have to find their way here at some point...

Think they're gonna make the tubes behind him, too? If so, I DEFINITELY need those. Killer!!!!!

Long time no post for me...

Like over a year ago I read that Kaiyodo was both cancelling the whole revoltech line and starting this new generic sci-fi revoltech toy line. These are waaaaay sicker than the initial designs I remember seeing, and I want them now :) Also look for the new Evangelion Revoltech line coming out in conjunction with yet-another-evangelion-movie in the Fall.

the Kaiyodo Revoltech series was created from the development of Assemble Borg several years ago. When they developed the rotating joints, they realized they could use the technology for other series based on popular anime characters. Assemble Borg itself is finally becoming a reality.
These here figures are "suits" that you upgrade the regular Assemble Borgs and Jarknoids with. They are referred to as the "Changing System".

The Doom Diver is also a vehicle/suit that you upgrade the Jarknoids with. It can also stand alone.

Here are some pics that show what Assemble Borg is capable of:

Don't show me this stuff. Please... my wallet is already crying!!!

But seriously, those combination pictures are amazing. I've seen these guys with swapped accessories, etc. but never to that degree.

I feel your pain!
My wallet is hurting pretty bad from buying Assemble Borgs
The accessories themselves can also be combined together to make all kinds of crazy stuff.

Clone, where are you getting all of these? I was only able to get the first wave at SDCC....

Re: Assemble Borg

Pm sent
I should also mention that the Jarknoid XO comes shipped with a mini microman sized Jarknoid. They randomly come in either Blue, red or purple. You have to replace the dummy joints with real joints though. My XO came with enough spares to replace most of them. This mini figure is also capable of combining with the larger figures and accessories.

Oh my gadd!
I stumbled across the site a few months back. I don't have anything like these in my collection, but I'm drawn to 'em.

Shopping for y'all:

Kaiyodo Museum Store

There might be some offerings on something ala YJA, which I haven't checked yet. Other than that it doesn't look like the usual joints have anything.

Re: Assemble Borg

You can get em on ebay pretty easily.

Re: Assemble Borg

Tue Aug 18, 2009 3:22 pm

I'm loving these. Remind of some latter micronauts releases - but I had to stop collecting those, and can't start on these. If they were 12" size I might have to though.

Re: Assemble Borg

Takara needs to come out with a new 12" Henshin Cyborg line that puts these to shame.....

That could be great, but I wonder if there is a mass market audience out there for such a thing, or is it just us nostalgia freaks? I never really dug anyhing but the OG Cyborgs - the neo's and 99's were cool but too modern..... I imagine if there was a new cyborg release now it would be a hideously over accessorised post-trasnformers movie figure. Ugh.

Solution: Release new proprietary suits on re-issue cyborg bodies (that stand properly and are well made). :D

Probably right. But as long as they were clear with chrome innards I'll be all over them. And if they were compatible with OG Cyborgs, even better!
