Wow! That's an amazing figure.

Although they cannot compare in size, not swappable parts, the X-Plus version does look very similar. I have both a red and grey and love them - plus they only cost me 4000 Yen!

Hey Plover!
You were very lucky to get those at retail. Esp the red one.
I've seen it going for as much as 12000yen here!
I don't know if they were particularly limited or just very popular -
but it's certainly on MY list of 'ones that got away'!

Red King kicks a boulder on Pigmon in Ultraman; Garamon predates Pigmon- he was from Ultra Q. His comeuppance was much less dramatic than being crushed- his remote control signal was cut off, and he fell over, belching.....

The Garamon suit was recycled to make Pigmon...you can definitely see differences in the two characters, owing to alteration and deterioration of the suit (probably in equal measure). Pigmon looks much less scrappy and fireplug-solid, generally less realistic than his earlier incarnation as Garamon. His Ultraman-era body has a narrow, stretched shape; his arms seem longer and thinner, more pendulous.
