I've been, but found nothing. I didn't look _that_ hard, though.

Same here (just last month, in fact). With Osaka being so close, I'd be surprised if there were more than a handful of shops in Kyoto, and most of those are probably selling Masked Rider, Mazinger, Pokemon....

Yeah, there's plenty to do in Kyoto without toy hunting. The Imperial Gardens are great. You can get lost in there and not even see walls or another human being.

That sounds a sweet place Roger. I imagine it would be damn stunning in those gardens. Am sure we will venture there. And apart from chasing down Giesha, I'm wanting to check the little moss covered statues at 'Otagi Nenbutsuji' among other sights.

Jetmug - Not hitting Kobe this time round, or at least not in the plans yet.

I have been to Japan three times. Tokyo, Niigata, Kyoto, Koriyama, and I have _never_ seen a geisha. I think it's just because I don't travel in those circles, but if you do see one, please snap a pic? They're like thylacines, they have to be out there...

Ooh, thylacines. Now that is an animal that you don't hear about every day.

I always liked coelacanths as well as far as cryptic animals are concerned.

A couple of friends were living in Japan for 12 months and they hit Kyoto once or twice for a weekend and saw Mako at least. Not sure about Giesha though. There is a section of Kyoto where the Giesha are going by the travel books.

but we get the picture!
Lucky sighting. I didn't see any Geisha the couple day s we were in Kyoto last month. There were a number of girls dressed in tradtional kimono etc. doing the temple rounds on the Sunday but that was about it. Still nice to see and they got a lot of attention.
