 Re: Gargamel Zodiac
Hahaha yes, quite a way yet. Then I wonder what will be after that? New colors? These are extra fun for me as they were released coinciding for when I got married so 2013 is the 6th figure and our 6th anniversary!

 Re: Gargamel Zodiac
Awesome collection! I really like how they all have such soft faces and then a detailed body to contrast. Very cool!

 Re: Gargamel Zodiac
The way the Snake and Ox have their hands placed inside their gi/pockets makes them so damn adorable.
Look so great together. congrats.

 Re: Gargamel Zodiac
Thanks. I really think these are master sculpts. They are so minimal in detail yes the details and feeling of each character are captured so well. The simplification of the snakes coils in the neck area is a great example. So many cool people really hooked me up in my chase for these. I can't say thanks enough to all of them!

 Re: Gargamel Zodiac
The sculpt on these is amazing. Each one stands alone great, but they look so much better together as a whole collection. I was lucky to have a couple of these in my stuff for awhile, before returning them to the great guy that had hooked me up with them. Some of the best things that the Gargamel gang has done over the years. If I had to pick a favorite I think it would be the mouse. Always looking forward to the new ones.

 Re: Gargamel Zodiac
now this is the way to show appreciation for a toy. the mouse and snake characterizations are especially wonderful.
is this the first time gargamel didn't selectively hand them out just within their circle? it seemed to surprise everyone that they turned up in lucky bags. i wonder why all of a sudden?
great collection. good luck in keeping up!

But now, seeing them all together, totally different sensation.

Wow, i'm on the same boat as ultra999, never noticed that every body is different. And it's not a solid color either huh? looks like silver flake? regardless, thank you for the close ups! makes me want to collect these zodiac figures. Dragon's my favorite btw, awesome sculpt on the head.

 Re: Gargamel Zodiac
I'm always suprised by the stuff that some collectors get into. These are a perfect example. To me, they look like Disney toys?..Def wouldn't look right on my shelf.

Dragon's my favorite btw, awesome sculpt on the head. The vinyl is really unique it's green with a bit of sparkle in it and it's a matte texture. The flake isn't like big metal flakes though, more like sand.

I don't really see the Disney angle myself. Although I've not been informed directly I think it's pretty safe to say they are based on tradtional Zodiac sculptures found throughout Asia which also generally feature a minimalist approach to detail. For example: http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3233/5872 ... 1842_z.jpghttp://farm1.staticflickr.com/13/891597 ... 79e9ea.jpgPersonal tastes on these aside, I think that is what is great about sofubi collecting. Everyone has different tastes and a wealth of different items in their collections so there is always something new to see.

Vombie wrote: i always thought the vinyl was sprayed lightly with silver, no? it looks that way to me. No they don't have any spray. If you have any of the micros in a similar color I believe it's the same vinyl but the finish makes a lot of difference. The Dragon appears slightly shinier than the others. Not sure if they're all like that of if mine got a bit more glitter haha

Ah this is very interesting, I had no idea. I was wondering why the sculpt was more detailed on the bodies that the faces... I also love the way Gargamel is written underneath the foot, first time I've seen this (where the letters seem to form ideograms).

 Re: Gargamel Zodiac
These are some of my most treasured gargamel figures. I had always thought that they were sprayed with a fine glitter coat, but I could be wrong, maybe it is in the vinyl. Also, I can get you those scans of the postcards if someone else hasn't already. Great pics!

 Re: Gargamel Zodiac
I have none but can see why they are so revered. After going to the expense of sculpting and tooling I only hope that once all 12 are done that they make 'em available as a general release, maybe in a different colourway so's to not devalue the original gifted items!
I admire your focus!

 Re: Gargamel Zodiac
With some Snakes popping up a lot more this year as they've appeared in the Lucky Bags this is a good time to add one to your collection!
