 variety vs variant
is it just me or am I starting to feel that there are like only 10 toys that people really really like in the Secret Base/Gargamel/CCP/etc etc etc. genre and about 1 million variants for this.
why don't they just keep creating more designs, rather than variants of the same thing?
sorry i am just starting to get bored of looking at the same figures in a multitude of colors like the pantone color guide.
not being a pain but really just asking what people think about this?

I walked into supreme a few years ago and they had these line of decks with just pantone swatches on them. Probably the coolest decks I've ever seen.

Thanks. You are correct! I couldn't remember the dude's name. A real fresh outlook from the rest of the graphics coming out that time.
I'd never get tired of these.

most probably. I know of a few shirts they had "cease and desist" letters before they even came out because of copywright infringement..

So why all the sandwich talk?
Well, just as there is a basic sandwich form, what makes them special is the variety of elements that can go into them. So while anyone would get sick of a tuna sandwich everyday, being able to mix and match items means that sandwiches never go out of style...

Besides most of the western variants are a marketing strategy while JP paint schemes are a lot of times a tribute to anime, other toys etc..Look at RxH's newer releases..Booska colorway and what not-The different paint schemes actually hold some meaning other than making more cash form more colors..Not that thats a bad thing...

when is when too much when
The ever lasting question, when is it too much and why to make so many of the same thing.
Coming from the perspective of a guy just finally getting his crotch wet with making toys. Colorways are way easier to get done once you have a toy finished, steven is taking upwards of two years by the time he lands from the time I drew him, edward will probably take a year all said and done. Secondly but maybe firstly, you need to do at least 3 colors just to get your time and dough back, after that is when you start actually making a living off a particular toy. Esp... japany vinyl is such a costly endovour.
Personally I tap out after about 6 or so of any one toy. And if it is the flavour of the month. A year from now your gonna be wondering what dumpster to though those eggs or [expletive deleted] or bearfart with glowing eyes. That being said if you truly love a particular toy, then there is no limit. I think i have about 25 variants of time travelers and barefoots, and although I don't actively seek more out, I will never get rid of them, and do pick one up here and there when it is in front of my face. does anybody have any gyango or big booskas they want to get rid of. I need more colors!!!

I love multiple colorways of JP toys. Each color creates a new personality for the sculpt.
Most western toys cant do this.
Thats why I like multiple colorways of JP toys so much.
Its like getting a new toy everytime with each paint colorway. I can have a collection of one toy painted differently and feel like I have a full collection of differnt toys.
