whoa. This is great. Had forgotten that people here really used to collect mainstream kaiju. I have a few Popy Zaurus - tried to keep them during the great SellOff. Love the rough texture and the colors fading into darkness.

Re: anyone esle collect Popy "King Zaurus"?
Well, there isn't a dedicated Slash thread, so apologies if this offends anyone's vintage sensitivities. This guy landed in my place this week fulfilling a long-time quest. I am completely in love with the KZ line, and so the Slash re-makes are pretty nice too, when you can't find the real thing. But in this case, it is a figure that far surpasses all expectations over the original. This is a re-issue of the Popy '75 Mechagodzilla sculpt, but with part of the vinyl left unpainted in an incredible 'prototype' look. Really, I very nearly started a favourite MG thread just for this guy. The way the paint is done on him is completely vintage; it is thick and matte and in such classic colours. Crude perhaps, but oh so charming. It is like a fantastic bootleg that a kid (i.e. me) would love more than a licensed toy.

It offends my sensitivities...that I don't have one of those! I love those Slash reissues. Super-creative color schemes and vinyl combos.

Re: anyone esle collect Popy "King Zaurus"?
Ladies and gentlemen, I present you with one of my all-time favourite Baltan sculpts. And by sheer numbers of the variations out there, that is saying a lot. I just love this toy. Beautiful chocolately vinyl, amazing paint colours, nice black accents, a crude sculpt with lots of funky detail - the kind of toy you just have to love. A perfect foray for the KZ line. This is the reissued version, with just slightly different paint application and he stands a bit shorter than the original.

Re: anyone esle collect Popy "King Zaurus"?
Congratulations Steve! Such a nice one! He'd be handy around the holidays to crack open freshly roasted walnuts and almonds I'm still trying to track down a Jirass and I have a Garamon sitting patiently overseas. I'm still having a hard time telling the Vintage from the Re-issue for these figures. Any pointers or suggestions? I've yet to figure out if the Garamon I adopted is a vintage or not. Help!

Re: anyone esle collect Popy "King Zaurus"?
I think the size is the easiest way to tell Grace, but usually when you have them in hand, you can tell from the vinyl, whether it is older or not. It is difficult to tell from the photos online more often than not though, so I understand the dilemma. The reissued ones tend to be a bit brighter in the paint accents, and are also shinier, so you can look for that. But really, it should also say in the description, though you never know. Either way though, the reissued ones (when available) are fantastic quality, and almost cost the same amount, so I am not even really that concerned with new versus old for the KZ guys.

Re: anyone esle collect Popy "King Zaurus"?
Yessums! That's what I'm finding--the adoption fees are about the same, when they do come up. So in general will the re-issues be shorter than the vintage? I know this applies to the Kanegon. Very frustrating though, as the paint on some of the vintage and re-issues, look exactly the same. I can't tell the difference in both versions of Kanegons that I have-they look virtually identical (except that the re-issue is only 5 mm shorter!). Awfully hard to tell what you are getting on the auctions, when they don't tell you if it's old or new

Re: anyone esle collect Popy "King Zaurus"?
I also don't have any identical figures in both old and new versions, so I can't do a direct comparison, unfortunately. I think the smaller size is consistent throughout the reissues, though 5mm is admittedly a hard amount to tell. And I would have actually expected the newer guys to be bigger, if anything, if they had to be cast from existing figures if the original molds were not available. One thing is that the paint on the older ones was very susceptible to wear/scuffing - I think I have only ever seen one Garamon for example that wasn't missing noticeable areas on the head; another reason why I don't mind picking up the reissue guys at all for minty fresh condition.

Re: anyone esle collect Popy "King Zaurus"?
I posted photos of my Kanegon here... viewtopic.php?f=30&t=45984I wouldn't mind having both versions of Jirass and Garamon, but with the auctions being very vague about vintage vs. re-issue, I want to avoid adopting two figures of vintage or two figures of re-issue. Thanks to your VERY helpful photos of the header cards (same topic thread listed above), at least that is a great way to identify old vs. new, for adoptions that include their header card. Really hard to tell the Kanegon twins apart, as you can see!

I may not have many figures from this series.....but the ones that I do have represent the group well. Here are Windam, Seagla, and Kemular....clockwise from the left respectively.

Apologize that Im reviving an old thread but I didn't want to make a new thread just to ask a question.
But I have some questions about this line and couldn't find much online. Anyone with knowledge on these dudes would be greatly appreciated. Please shoot me a PM if possible.
