Post Lion Maru
Hello, I am new to this wonderful forum and had learnt a lot just by going through the posts. Had started collecting vintage vinyls for about a year or so and here is my latest member. Just finished giving this guy a very much needed hair wash. I forgot to take a before picture, but I can tell you it was grey with black streaks before wash. It turns out his hair is quite white under all those 30+ year dirt !

Weclome to the board. Awesome toy and great photos. Are his accessories (cape and sword) all original? It's amazing that they are intact and in such great shape. What other goodies are in your collection?

Yes, the cape and sword are original. This piece was in a very good condition when I bought it,of course minus the dirty grey hair on the helment. I collect mostly robots. Not quite into kaijus though. Oh, and just want to say I clean and do paint touch up to my vintage vinyls. Most of the vintage collectors may oppose to this act. But I really enjoy bringing new life to a scuffed and beat up vinyl . Also the price of a not-so-mint vinyl is cheaper as well. :D

That's a really great Bullmark figure and tough to find with sword and scarab intact.
I had the same figure at one time but the scarab was broken, it easily breaks because it's hard plastic. Really nice job cleaning him up.

beautifull photos ! not too often you see a big size lion maru with the sword . as far as touching up the old vinyls you buy thats up to you to decide . personally i wouldnt but but my opinion is if you bought it its yours to do what you like . should you ever sell it you should disclose what you altered on it .

his head looks like an orange that's been peeled up, but, surprise! another evil orange with skin intact underneath!

it's got a great, darkly mischievous face. very nice anchor indeed.

i'm not sure you'd get any better representation by rubbing an actual squirrel carcass against the clay. maybe?

this might sound sacrilegious, but i would love to see that head & collar sculpted on to an rxh- or gargamel- style squat/mini body. with most vintage toku toys, i get bored by the time my eyes scan down their featureless legs.

Sweet thread revival! :D Very nice figure Michael, I love his toother grin - evil, and yet almost still comical. I really need to track one of these down. Did you find yours overseas?

I have to say, looking at this thread again, I still have not seen any Lion Maru with such white hair - they are almost always yellowed or dirty, and one in that fantastic condition with cape and sword is a real treasure. I wonder if it is still kickin' around in lordmaster's collection.

Right, I just meant I have never seen one successfully cleaned. I figured the yellow was mostly aging/UV bleaching, but I promise if I ever get one I will definitely try giving him a full salon treatment.

Arise, arise. :) Odd to raise this thread up once again for the same figure, but what the hey, he is a great one. Although Wakuranaba is supremely excellent, this Musasabian is no slouch either. Happily picked this fella up not so long ago. It has been far too long since I added a Lion Maru figure to my collection.

Embiggen for greater flying attack.

This toy has just a fantastic design. His face has such great character and I love the chest swirl (is that a naruto, uzumaki - who cares?!). He is a little worn, but fits right in with my 'loved' toy family.

Really nice score Jonathan. I'd be happy with any version of Leafman and you have both! Did you get that from Wayne (organic)?

Thanks guys. Chris, no I actually won him a couple of months ago at auction. The thing I wanted was gone by the time I heard about Wayne's sale.

There is a catalog or book only about vintage Japanese bootleg?

That would be great. I've never seen one for vintage sofubi bootlegs, but a small pamphlet was made for some vintage Japanese Star Wars bootleg items.
