Looks like the Popy...here is the Popy Kagestar minus the cape
The Popy version has some info on his butt with the number 104. His right foot has 'JAPAN' and some japanese info and his left foot has the popy logo..He might have been rebagged at some point as he looks like he is in played with condition. Either way for 70c you grabbed a bargin!

Yup, has 104 on the butt. Now I'm wondering what the header really belongs to...

I've gotten that header with bootleg fire man and iron king.
One thing I love about the old bootleg headers is that they all say Kaiju - didn't these folks know that they should be called Sofubee not Kaiju
There were multiple types of bootleg header cards. Some were part of the "Spaceman Series." There was also a "Ninja Series." Also can't forget "Children Toy."

Those are both fantastic. I really love the deformed face on that Mazinger. It is a pity he is not painted all the way around, but it does add to the bootleg charm too. Superb Mirrorman too, I love the clunky bodies like those, very similar to the Tiger Mask figures. Is he 'jumbo' sized?

Re: Bootleg Thread
Wow, those are great toys Scott! I love how the charm of the bootlegs can even beat the appeal of licensed toys at times. Mazinger is a perfect argument for that. It always impresses me here how people make the connections with the boots. I would have never guessed that body was the same but the proof is right there in the photo. The history of these toys from 40-50 years ago is long forgotten in the real world but truly lives on here. Love it!
Yeah, that Fireman is definitely incredible. So happy to see a larger pic of him now, but I already fell in love with that bulbous head when I saw him in your "new" pile. Just love it. Almost as though they thought (or tried) to make a removeable mask version. At any rate, it really gives you the impression of a hero in an actual oversized mask - which works so well. Extra sinister and bug-eyed. Great pose and body sculpting too.

Re: Bootleg Thread
Quick newb question: Are you searching specifically for bootlegs, or just the characters that they are supposed to be? Also, what are the characters for "bootleg"?

This thread is mainly about unliscenced reproductions of Japanese tokusatsu characters from the seventies.

Re: Bootleg Thread
Umm guys, I don't know what you think I meant, but let me explicate:
When I am searching for bootleg/pachi stuff on Y!JP I usually search for just the character names, and hope that something interesting and unlicensed comes up. Is this how other folks usually find their scores?
I have been trying to find a glossary of terms that includes the Japanese for "bootleg" and its characters so that I can search a little more effectively for say a boot Godzilla. Does anyone know the characters for the Japanese term for "bootleg" or "unofficial"?

nise mono (偽物) = fake item
The term is commonly used to refer to unlicensed/bootleg/KO toys.
A large percentage of KO toys from Japan aren't reproductions per se, but are simply unlicensed representations of characters. The crazy interpretations are what give the toys that funky bootleg vibe.

Re: Bootleg Thread
Thanks! I meant to say I don't think the Japanese use the word 'bootleg'. That's an American term. Basically it's just what everyone else said- unlicensed toys.
Chubs here needed some sauna time to sort out his weird 40 year old leg stance:
That is some stocky glory right there! Fantastic Kikaida bootleg, his face is almost gruesome looking, but with the comical body, it just all comes together.
