 Re: marusan originals
Those are amazing Josh. Just got this Dorango the other day. This one is a little different then the one akum6n posted, bright blue with green and orange paint.

 Re: marusan originals
I love the way the yellow paint is just a little sloppy. A great set of colors on that guy. So much nicer than the red reprint.

 Re: marusan originals
Wow, so I guess it is a legitimate variant. This is the 3rd one that I have seen. Great condition; the added green paint really gives it an aquatic reptile feel.

 Re: marusan originals

 Re: marusan originals
Saw my first MO in person the other day at a Mandarake store; the split-head guy (sorry I don't know the name). It got me thinking, even though the reissues were all based on the original figures, it seems the me that the vintage guys have waayyyy more character then anything in the recent line. For the most part, outside of a few exceptions, the reissued Marusan Creative line seems very cartoony and childlike, whereas the sculpt detail and colours on the older figures seem more 'monster'. Anyone else get this impression?

 Re: marusan originals
Nice shot VV. Funny I recently (maybe 2 months ago) saw a bunch of Marusan Originals on YJA and the bigger ones went for ridiculous money. I think it was mostly the double head guy, the green one that looks like a cow to the right of him, and the giant bakura. Surprisingly though some of the smaller ones went cheap.

Great figure - if it's the same one I'm thinking of, I was bidding for it too. Glad to see it went to a good home.

 Re: marusan originals
thanks Elvis. Alex was also bidding on this. So much for a "badly listed auction". Lixx, you are right about the large size marusan originals on yahoo. Used to be i would see them top out at around 60,000 yen. and now thats nothing compared to what i see them go for now. Maybe its taken this long for people to figure out how hard these are to find. Though i no longer look on yahoo, i had searched for the one i recently bought on ebay for over 10 years with never even a whiff of one for sale.

 Re: marusan originals
This guy showed up in my last box. Such a great toy in person. Not so sure why they put holes in his back though, anyone ever seen this before?

 Re: marusan originals
Wow, that is really odd. So there is no other opening implying a use for the internal chamber? I was thinking of lots of things that could be meant to go inside (sound box for example) but nothing for the way it is. The fourth asymmetric hole is the most puzzling actually. If it weren't for the paint, you'd almost think this was added after.

 Re: marusan originals
Nope no other clues. I was thinking maybe for a light bulb to dispel heat or something, kinda like the beetland/popy lamp has. I guess they could have been put in later but they are really well-placed and smooth cuts, thats what made me think it was done at the factory.

 Re: marusan originals
Yeah, I was thinking the exact same thing too, but again, seems unlikely to add it in the back like that. And as for lighting the whole figure, hard to say - doesn't seem to jive with the three upper holes. And I can't well see the cord coming out of his back in this fashion.
This is definitely a very cool mystery. It doesn't seem like the kind to suit the type of figure, but you could almost imagine he could have also had something attached to his back, as in some kind of rider or an additional set of spikes, but I think that is a stretch. Something internal still seems to be the most likely.
