There was a pink Anguirus that went for a comparable price.
That Cyborg figure seems to have significant darkening of the transparent parts.

Wow, you are right, that is indeed a hefty premium. Of course it is extra nice to have the original accessory, but looking at it, I don't think it would be all that hard to make a replacement actually, and someone who is dedicated would easily be able to do a high quality repro I bet, since there is a market. Boy, there really needs to be that shop that Chris is always asking for, for the vintage accessories. On a side note, the amazing-toy blog is such an incredible resource. I am sure I have spent hours going through the stories, there is just so much info, history, and excellent photos. Knowing it is all run by one passionate collector is sure something.

I'll take one for 30000 yen or less and make myself a damn cape. That's just ridiculous for a plastic cape you could easily duplicate in about 5 minutes. Someone really has just too much spare change to buy it at that price. Basically they paid for a rare original plastic cape.Toy is not rare at all.
I really need to get a 3D printer and open that Vintage accessory shop pronto and absolutely kill these prices from happening. I'd have no bones about doing it at all and would even smirk as I did it.

Huh, that price doesn't seem too insane for such a colossal hunk of minty robot. Its what, $361 a foot? As ever, I'd love to be able to have a better look at the gorgeous painting on the backing card.

The strange thing is that it was the second time that the seller relisted the figure, the two previous auctions started at 50,000 yen each one and nobody made a bet, but this last auction starting at 35,000 yen and the auction ended higher.

That is way up there considering the comparative price of most of the other standard size Marusan originals. It is a really nice figure though, all the same. I love the goofy 'Gary' take, his stubby t-rex arms, and the variety of colours on it is very nice. Almost a Gary camouflage.

Like you say Ultrakaiju one of the best things of this figures it´s the colorway that they use, I like the contrast of the green in the back with the yellow vinyl, It gives a touch of classic vintage style. When I see this Marusan monster automatically came to me the image of the classic Bullmark Hedorah (yellow/green). Best regards!

Out of all the Marusan originals that Gargan is the one I want the most. Strange how many variants might be out there. Well I guess not really strange considering the time and Bullmark did the same thing. Here are two other versions that I've saved pics of: That one in the auction above looks like someone might have tried to paint over it themselves at one point.

How adorable! (I'll say it, because I know you guys won't say it! ) High cuteness factor rating for this version. Can you add me to the list too?

Maybe the Gatchaman nodders will be reissued by Medicom soon too! One can only hope.

Funny to see vintage kaiju photographed against an investment-based backdrop.
I've never seen that version either - he looks so fetching in blue and red, and the wear is sublime.

Re: strange or rare yahoo auctions post here (after theyre o
Thats the Bullmark mid sized Red King and pretty rare so I hear (as with lots of the mid sized versions). Two versions of it exist I think. If you look on page 123 of the Beautiful Book of Monsters you can see both side by side: It's the one on the right I believe. Agree with Sanjeev- best version of Red King bar none. Actually the dirt/grime/aging give it even more character from the auction pics. The closest modern day companion to this toy sculpt wise would be Butanohana's Red King. Which probably explains my absolute love affair I have with the ones I own.
