 Re: DINOS! DINOS DINOS!
Love those dinos, and I actually much prefer the milky translucence of that vinyl rather than straight clear. I hope the productions runs come out like that. Is that a recast of the Yamakatsu Goji, or maybe one of the Imperials? He seems really familiar to me, but I can't immediately place it.

 Re: DINOS! DINOS DINOS!
Great! Thanks TC! I've never ordered anything from Lulubell, are these made for them or is there a company name that's missing?

 Re: DINOS! DINOS DINOS!
These are done by Luke Rook (of Grody shogun). It is a small independent operation, not associated with any of the larger sofubi companies. He does all the sculpting and painting himself. I am not sure if he is yet, but I believe there were plans for him to start pulling his own vinyl as well.

I wonder if they are using the actual original iron cast from Yamakatsu. Clearly not an licensed released since they change the name to King of All Beast.

 Re: DINOS! DINOS DINOS!
Yep, that is what I thought. Interesting choice for a re-issue. I do love the Yamakatsus, but to justify getting another one, it would have to be some type of different paint job (or maybe GID vinyl would be great!). I wonder if he got access to the original molds then? I would have also really loved to see a scaled up version of their sculpts, say 10-12," they really do have some amazing character.

 Re: DINOS! DINOS DINOS!
this probably belongs better in the grody thread, but luke is notorious for coming up on old, dscarded iron molds from vinyl toy factories via yard sales and junk stores. i think the dinosaurs might be a case with this, and possibly even the godzilla

 Re: DINOS! DINOS DINOS!
Wow. I obviously was going to all the wrong places when I was there. If such things are actually available, even on remote chances, I would gladly contribute to funding a months long endeavor to rescue such items, if only for historical preservation sake. Just imagine a 'warehouse' of collected vinyl molds through the decades, nevermind the great toys you could resurrect.

 Re: DINOS! DINOS DINOS!
totally! i meant my comment in general- not the photos/promo
there are a lot of exciting things happening in the vinyl world, its hard to pigeonhole where each thing should go. i think the dinos fit well here because they are more than likely vintage molds etc or whatever

ultrakaiju wrote: These are done by Luke Rook (of Grody shogun). Thanks. I went ahead and pre-ordered one of the King of All Beasts and one Brachiosaurus. I'm not sure there really are two different dinosaurs there for sale because the fine print for the Brontosaurus calls it a Brachiosaurus too and the pictures for both look like it's just the Brachiosaurus. I'm at work so I guess I'll email or call later to confirm. Thanks guys for all the input on these toys!

 Re: DINOS! DINOS DINOS!
They are two distinct dinosaurs, I think any error is just from Amy using the same listing to duplicate it for simplicity. You can see differences along the arch of the back and the head, for instance. It is a pre-order though, so you won't have any problem I am sure adding the additional one if you so choose.

 Re: DINOS! DINOS DINOS!
i've been informed that each dino is stamped with its name and its maker's mark on the belly. it's confirmed that these aren't lulubell's own designs; the company that makes them is tiny, and its name won't mean anything to anyone. the brachiosaurus is larger, has a more closed mouth compared to the brontosaurus, and its legs are slightly longer (perhaps that's why it appears to be larger?). the vinyl is very clear but looks foggy due to the texturing all over the body.

I'm pretty sure I know the company that originally released these in the 80s, and it's not that small. Perhaps they are using molds from the later run of reproductions by a second company, which was less well-known.

It says this on it's belly: scale: 1/50 brontosaurus (c)1981 sun & brownie Japan

 Re: DINOS! DINOS DINOS!
Great set Mark! It is great that they are done in a 'vicious' beast style, as opposed to the typical cutesy. And fantastic colours on such small figures. I'd love to see a full on collection shot of (at least some) of your dinos. These guys look pretty small to me, maybe between 2-3 inches.

 Re: DINOS! DINOS DINOS!
The T rex stands 8cm tall and the Brontosaurus is 11 cm long.
I'm working on a new set-up for the dinos. I will post lots of pics when that's done.

TiredChildren wrote: Wasn't sure where to post this. Thought you guys might be into them... Available at Lulubell now. I got my order today. The King is 5.5 inches tall and the Brachiosaurus is over 16 inches long. I'm very happy with the Brachiosaurus. It's really big and looks great displayed anywhere. The vinyl is soft so it feels like a real lizard when you pick it up, only without the weight of a real lizard. One leg is short or maybe it's just that another is too long (?) and there looks like a drip inside there, but none of that bothers me really. I'll repost the Yamakatsu 64 Goji reissue pictures somewhere in Japan Toys. (I had to move Castle Grayskull to take these pictures)

fun little toy I believe those were made by Tsukuda (Hobby)... came in a vinyl bag with two other dinos. There are a bunch of different ones and the combinations in the bag seem fairly random. Pretty cheap, and the bagged sets are not too hard to find. The size and pose remind me of Butanohana's dinos.
