Gezora Strangeness
Never noticed the different color vinyl before now. Also strange that their is a different tenacle mold. I wonder if it is like the godzilla tail and the mold broke and had to be redone. Maybe it is a bootleg. I miss the old days when M1 would come out and you get the direct the scoop on the old toys.

The issue with the vintage one M1GO told me about was that the stance was sort of wobbly and the legs tended to crack. So they re-sculpted the bottom half to fix this.
Never noticed that bit about the tentacles, though. I'll ask when I get the chance.

Roger already got the the base of the vinyl question. It is suppose to stand better too. The vinyl color difference is not as big as red to blue and maybe hard to notice if they are not pictured together, but is very different. The more subtle difference is the black spray. The one tenacle with more suckers is similar to m1, but is larger. The overall m1 gezora is slightly smaller. Unfortunately I have 3 gezoras, there is a group shot all three floating around. I think the japanese site shows 4 or 5 different black ones, but i have no idea on the differences.

Revival!
Could it be as simple as the tentacles were switched? Or they used two of the same? If you look at the curve, it could fit on the other side properly.

Re: Gezora Strangeness
I asked Tada at M1GO about this, he said that after building hundreds of Gezora figures, it's very easy to make a mistake with the arm parts. Someone at the factory probably put two of the same arm on accidentally.
As far as the difference in vinyl color, you could chalk that up to slight variations in the original material when it was manufactured, or environmental differences in how the figures were displayed/stored over the last couple of decades.

Re: Gezora Strangeness
Nice revival Roger, though I would have immediately thought those were the two 'causes' of these respective issues myself when I first read this. A quirk, and something interesting to notice/discuss, but as with a lot of vintage toys, there tends to be quite a bit of variation sometimes between the thousands of figures they made, and the decades that the toys have gone through. I have certainly even seen 'aftermarket' limb swaps where sellers/collectors(?) may have changed out parts of a figure to make one whole or 'better' version. So yeah, I don't know if this falls as much into the category of variant say as the inverted Ganime, but it's cool to see the versions of a figure.

Re: Gezora Strangeness
You're right, there are many possible reasons why this could have happened, from an honest mistake by one of the workers at the Mommy Doll factory, to something a collector did afterwards.
I like to think that somewhere deep under a landfill in Japan, there is a Gezora with two right arms and an empty void where its heart once was, as it forever longs for its two-left-armed mate.
(We should commission Tara McPherson to paint this as a kaiju cutaway.)
