Post Gango Gyango Gyagon
I picked up this Gyagon for cheap. I haven't been able to find an exact match for it on Club Tokyo or just through a Google search. The closest match I've found is an orange version without a tail.

So is this guy likely to be a bootleg? The bottom of the foot has the Bullmark stamp and Bandai printed.

Thanks for any info/ideas?

I call him Gango

There are 2 original Bullmark (orange) versions 1966, 1969

There are 4 B-Club Repros of the OG Bullmark sculpt:
1990,1991,2000,2008

You have the 2000 release.

Thanks for the quick and very complete response!

Is there any way I could have figured that out for myself? Googling Gango seems to bring up even fewer results than I found the first time.

Very cool figure. Congrats.

I thought that marking was used on the 1991 Bandai reissues (usually with a sticker too). Or is it used on all Bandai releases?

Try Gyango for this guy. Original Bullmarks are not marked Bandai and the color scheme gives it away. B-Club used this marking until they switched to the "Popy" mark several years ago. I thought the 1991 reissues were not marked but only had a sticker and a hang tag. Their paint schemes are very similar to the originals.

Well, I'm not familiar with color schemes for this dude, so I can't comment on that. But I have a few of the 1991 Bandai reissues, and they have a similar black marking on the foot by the Bullmark stamp. I'll post pics tonight.

Maybe it's the giant size pieces I am thinking about. I know some did not have the ink stamp.

I think you're correct Mark - some of the '91 Bandai standard reissues don't have the black writing on the bottom - Zetton and Kanegon come to mind - and since they are done in colors very close to the originals, it's easy for a new collector to mistake them for vintage Bullmarks. I could never understand why Bandai reissued some of these figures in paint schemes so close to the originals but without any identifying mark to indicate they were repops. Buyer beware when bidding on blue Kanegons and blue Zettons.

Sorry blakewest, I don't mean to hijack the thread, but since we're on this topic...

I see its not the same characters, but its a similar style (black writing). This is on my Jumbo Baltan:

I also have a 1992 Bandai Godzilla, but it doesn't look to have any similar writing, although you can tell that the stamp is crap:

The Bullmark Zetton has yellow "horns" and the Bandai repros are red. The Kanegon, and some of the others, are really hard to tell apart in crappy auction pictures. Comparing originals side-by-side to the '91 repros, it seems that the rerpos have "more" oversprays. The same is true with the Nitto reissue Gamera series figures...very hard to tell from the originals in pictures only. The Toho kaiju reissues have very different paint schemes and even some different vinyl base colors.

Back on topic, kind of, the original Marusan blue spray Gyango is a thing of beauty.

This one is an old Bullmark, right? Sorry I don't have a pic handy of both bottom feet...

Yep, that looks like the original Bullmark. To further complicate things, some of the reissues have the long tail that none of the originals do.

Thanks Mark. I almost went to the Nat. History museum today, but instead went to Coventry/Big Fun. They had a blue Space Sheriff Shaider 80's toy for 15 bucks. I shoulda bought it.
