KRAFTWERK!!!
I hate you New Yorkers right now. I'd go without toys all year for this... http://www.moma.org/visit/calendar/exhibitions/1257

Re: KRAFTWERK!!!
This would be insane! Wonder if doing all eight performances would be to much Kraftwerk?

Re: KRAFTWERK!!!
kraftwerk was one of the first ever electronic music acts that had a kind of dark funk and rhythmic soundscape. It's also the basis for Planet Rock By Afrika Bambatta and the Soul Sonic Force. No one form of music is "better" than another. Simply different. Trans Europe Express was a huge inspiration at the time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBGNlTPg ... re=relatedThis dudes played this shit live FYI.

Re: KRAFTWERK!!!
And here is planet rock which is why kraftwerk became known in America a second time, to a later generation through Afrika Bambatta and Hip-hop. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lDCYjb8RHk

Re: KRAFTWERK!!!
Basically if you're listened to any electronic music, hip hop or pop since Kraftwerk then you've experienced their influence. I can totally see why they wouldn't seem so special out of their historical context, but at the time this shit was totally revolutionary. Plus the music is great!

Re: KRAFTWERK!!!
I think we can also label them as pioneers of punk before punk was defined, ie it included Stranglers, DEVO, Cramps, Pere Ubu, Blondie etc etc. That essential first wave of punk.
One of the best live bands I have seen. Up there with Front242, Killing Joke, Stranglers, Oingo Boingo, etc.
Just my 3cents.

Re: KRAFTWERK!!!
I had the pleasure of front row tickets for Kraftwerk at the Greek theatre in LA. if you haven't been it's an outdoor amphitheater nestled in Griffith Park. Beautiful place to see a band. Funny I should get front two tho, because for most other bands that would be incrdeible. But for Kraftwerk it gave me a close up on the robots, who looked very high school science project. The music, was, of course, superb.
Whoever said above there was better stuff around, form my limited experiences, these guys cut the edge and made something altogether still relevant now. As much as I know Can and Neu and their motorik ilk were also mold breakers, Kraftwerk made it accessible which is no bad thing in my book. But I guess accessible then is somewhat different to accessible now. There influence on later music is also part of their lasting legacy.

Re: KRAFTWERK!!!
It was a very special MoMa event indeed. The only disconcerting thing that I noticed was alot of hipsters weren't there for the music, but because it was the hot ticket in town that night. They were all about being seen as opposed to really enjoying the KRAFTWERK experience. Overall, the setlist was great and the 3-D visuals were stellar.
