Who's going? We'll have a table with some awesome Marusan vinyl and everything on the site as well.
Akira Takarada is going to have some crazy vintage Kaiju there as well. Looks like it's going to be another awesome show.

I will most likely be there bright and early on Saturday. I'm wondering how the show will be this year, as there seems to be a couple of names missing from the dealer list. Anyone else going?

I saw those, and they do look nice! I just have an overabundance of prints/posters/etc. sitting unframed in my closet, so I've had to stop myself from buying any more.

I thought the show was decent this year, no better or worse than usual, although I actually walked out empty handed for the first time ever.

Ha, I was there for 2 hours and I still bought something! Next year I'll be there and we'll have a lot more stuff. It's crazy how much people like the SH MonsterArts and Revoltech, but no one cared about the Marusan Vinyl?

Post Re: G-Fest
i'm still working on sifting through a few hundred photos for just a handful of meaningfully representative ones (i am a terrible photographer) to make a "review" post here soon. of course, i completely forgot to take any photos of bryan's table (and my stuff) and linda's table :( did i mention i am a terrible photographer?

i was shocked at the size of the dealer room this time since it's expanded to almost double its previous size. was i imagining, or did it look like two banquet halls were joined up to create one massive space? oddly, some perennial old timers were missing, but new vendors filled their abandoned spaces. there were some incredible deals to be had -- $5 us toys shampoo bottle baltan, $20 marmit parababies, linda's generous give-aways, $5 bullmark logo shirts -- and that's just what i found with the very limited time (< 1 hour) i had in there. there's something about being able to handle until-then screen-only toys. the vintage guys showed up in full force, too. of course, probably 70%+ was 6" bandai action figures, but lots of "cheap" stuff has charm. i didn't quite get why the doctor who shop was there, but i appreciated their effort.

there are plenty of die-hard g-fans who are only into ultra-realistic toys/sculptures, and anything that looks stylized or "cartoony" gets cast aside with a flippant remark such as, "why is this dumb thing so expensive? my $10 bandai looks so much better!" i heard numerous variations of that comment many times as i walked through the dealer room. it's one thing to say that to yourself or quietly aside to your buddy, but i wish they'd stop berating the poor shop-keepers. maybe i shouldn't give so much weight to what 11 year old kids (and 50 year old 11 year olds) are saying, though

for us, g-fest gets better each year. volunteering for most of our time to help the japanese guests and over-excited attendees gets us more involved and connected with this community, especially with those who brought us our childhood memories. exhausting, yes, but deeply satisfying. even the panels and presentations seem to be very personal.

besides, how often do you get to "shuwaaatch!" with the very man that wore the original ultraman suit? :D

It is weird to see how most of the people are primarily into Bandai figures. Don't get me wrong, I like them as well (and have more than I can even fit in my Detolf), but c'mon people! That's why it's always nice to see people like Linda, Mike Johnson and the Clawmark folks (who couldn't make it this year, unfortunately).

As for me, I'm local-ish (western suburbs). I just haven't been able to make any previous get togethers, and now I'm working nights and going back to school, but I would be into trying to make it out to something in the future.

You are now officially bestowed with the spiritual authority to lay blessings upon any and all officially licensed Tsuburaya Productions products - if ever I get to shake your sacred hand, sweet William, I swear I'll never be able to wash my own grungy mitt ever again!

Yeah, I sold one vinyl piece and I was surprised because I had some really cool Marusan, Medicom, and Inspire vinyl in stock. Oh well there is always next year.
