Artomatic DC

Sun May 20, 2012 10:00 am

Artomatic in crystal city opened this weekend and anyone in the DC area I recommend checking it out.
I have an installation, and there are tons of interesting, weird, and just odd things to see.
There are some really cool toy influenced things also. Glass blown star wars figures, pictures of various loved video games in legos (and Totoro!), photos of naked women with star wars toys, etc etc. lol Its free and a great way to spend a few hours.

I still need to go back when its less crowded to see everything and take some photos.

I also recommend checking out the plaster door knockers on floor 11, or just checking out his stuff if you aren't in the area.

Its super uneven as always, but there are some really amazing pieces and its just a one of a kind experience. I recommend even just running through the floors for an hour or two. Opening night was crazy though and the lines were around the blocks to get in. (Along with elevator problems).
Once you get in its such a huge space though that it never feels crowded unless you are in the elevators.

This video is a bit annoying but has some shots of some of the exhibits I've seen so far that were cool.

My favorites have to be a glass artist doing starwars toy silhouettes cast in glass almost like carbonite but more stylish (seen in the video), the door knockers, and Steve Strawn's robot toy photos
