As far as Japanese Toys go, Time Tunnel is ok (I picked up a M1GO Lucky Bag Matango for $50 last week), but I understand the Toy Show is more about the kind of crap I don't want.

Sjoen went last year and said it blew.

not much in the way of japanese toys but still fun in a nostalgic, garage sale kind of way. especially if you dig hotwheels transformers GI Joe star wars toys.

Yeah..I've been once and there are tons of hotwheels, starwars, 80's nostalgic things. There are always a few random buried treasures and obscure items but as a whole expect to walk away without anything.

That being said...I did like going and will probably try to go this year but I'll have low expectations.

I've never been, but I've heard that in years past, it was a good venue for picking up some vintage Microman/Micronaut figures.

Thanks for the input guys. Yeah, I vaguely recall Sjoen's post from last year, now that I think about it.

Hmm, well, I'm totally down for some garage sale folding-table action. It can't be worse than the LA Sci-Fi & Comic Convention ("Come for the porn, stay for the toys and comics!").

If you guys in the area are going, let's carpool or something. I can drive, but the only caveat is that I am going early.

Just lucky I guess, It was just sitting in the big kaiju case. The price tag said 60, but he rang it up as 50.

It was the first time I'd been to Time Tunnel in 8 years...

I used to go to the Super Toy show pretty often in the late 90's when I was collecting Star Wars toys. Kirkland's description is pretty accurate. Lots of G.I. Joe and Star Wars, Hot Wheels and other die cast cars (tons of Beanie Babies back in the 90's). A few vintage toy dealers (Western toys for the most part), but like a flea market, you never what treasure you might find. You just have to decide whether it's worth your time to spend the day sifting through all the uninteresting stuff for a chance at finding something cool. I used to go with friends, so even if I came home having bought nothing, at least I'd spent the day with friends doing something we all loved, hunting for toys.

Good score. I remember seeing that there for months. It was in the same case as the Minya if I'm not mistaken.

Yeah..sometimes they have some really good random things. I picked up a kanegon there and it's one of my favorite toys

Post Re: San Jose Super Toy Show (9/6)
So I guess I was the only one that went to this.

All in all, I wouldn't say that it 'blew,' but 90% of the stuff there would probably not be of interest to people here. At least I can see why Sjoen wouldn't be interested. A lot of newer superhero, robot and Spawn-type toys... mostly at inflated prices. I think it is safe to say that I have been thoroughly spoiled by online toy buying.

That is not to say that it was not interesting for me.

Here's the highs and lows of the day:

Low points:

- Scalpers galore. Can't find those store exclusives? These people are to blame.
- Overpriced Transformers merchandise. The prices would be forgivable, except most of the toys were filthy/broken/missing everything and then some.
- Vintage bootleg Go-Lion (Voltron) set for $30. Only catch: it's missing the black lion and most of the chrome from everything else.
- Two overweight men ogling a skimpily-clad anime girl toy. Ew. Ew. Ew.
- People need to bathe more frequently before mingling with other people.

High points:

- $10 M1, Marmit and B-Club vinyls. Nothing great, but they were cheap.
- A lot of vintage odds and ends of popular characters from the 70s-80s era. Some nice Rat Fink styled items.
- No scary booth people. If you've visited the LA Sci-Fi Con, you know what I mean.
- Pretty decent prices on the non-mainstream things. I'm used to people pricing the hell out of anything slightly out of production, so this was a nice surprise.
- This:

Now I can say that I have actually purchased a blow-up doll from a toy show. A USED blow-up doll. It's got that vintage feeling.
