Re: (Recommended) Places To Eat List
Not sure if I've mentioned this but Outerlands in the sunset is my new jam. I get lazy with the this thread but lately I've been going a lot and figured I'd mentioned it. Even been going by myself. It's organic, sustainable and very San Francisco. The food is good and I never seem to have a problem getting in. Well, above everything, whoever the baker is that they have on staff, he/she is fantastic. go check it out. (Get the levain toast with garlic and Olive Oil. "Keep it simple stupid") http://outerlandssf.com/Also on a non SF tip and what is probably common knowledge to most here, I wanted to suggest this small guide to Japanese food. http://chocolateandzucchini.com/archive ... s.php#more It's by one of my favorite food bloggers, Clotilde Dusoulier, who I may or may not be slightly in love with.

Although at present I'm obsessed with home cooking as opposed to restaurants, I can't keep out of the pan-Asian and Japanese markets. So much fun to bring home ingredients that are new to me and learning both the basics and the "breakaway" possibilities. The blog looks really great. Bookmarked. I'll check out Outerlands for sure. Looks like a cool low-key option.

Re: (Recommended) Places To Eat List
sorry, i know this has come up before... but... Best Sushi in SF? I'm a bit disillusioned with the whole thing.
Who has tried KISS Seafood on Laguna? #1 on Yelp.
My old favorite was Deep Sushi in Noe Valley / Glen Park but it's gone now.
No one is allowed to call out Ebisu. Period. Or anywhere in Japan Town.

Re: (Recommended) Places To Eat List
well Kiss is technically in Japantown. Since I do really eat seafood, I'm useless in this category. Although Julie brought me to a sushi place and I are a whole crap ton. It might have been a little too much to do after 25 years of not eating it. I'd be open to going to Kiss with someone to guide me.
Everybody talks about how small it is and how it's hard to get in because they only serve like 12 a night. But anytime I walk by on a week night they seem to have a open table or 2.

Re: (Recommended) Places To Eat List
Oh fuck me. I just was offered a package deal to stay at El Bulli hotel and eat at La Alqueria. Flying to Europe to vacation/eat and I may not be able to turn this down. Super77m(sorry I don't know your name ), have you ever been? Already planning on going to Espai Sucre in Barcelona. Any tips? recommendations from you guys for Spain or Italy? (also going to Norway and Sweden but am pretty jampacked with plans there already)

What part of Italy are you going to be in? A good friend of mine is a guidebook writer specializing in the Umbria region. I can probably get a few recomendations from her, if you'd like. Spain, Italy, Norway and Sweden? How long are you going to be there? A month? bannedindc wrote: Oh fuck me. I just was offered a package deal to stay at El Bulli hotel and eat at La Alqueria. Re: (Recommended) Places To Eat List
Yea, I stopped going because it's just too ridiculous. It was nice calling in before and then picking up a sandwich. But that takes even longer nowadays than just waiting in line.

How come? cause it only takes 15min, sometimes less, for me to get my sandwich...including the wait in line.

Re: (Recommended) Places To Eat List
the lunch event sounds fun! I didn't get to La Alqueria, but it sounds like a great trip. I have been to Espai Sucre, and it was interesting to see the variations on dessert. Compared to places that tried to do the same thing and went bankrupt, or are still at it - like Chikalicious in NY, it was among the best, though I like Chikalicious for what it is. My recommendation is go early, and make sure you request a table in the front. I think there are only 2 or 3 tables! The pastry chef at Blue Hill was doing an unusual dessert tasting for awhile, which was simply breathtaking, but I think that has stopped. I had an incredible braised chicken, and discovered some amazing spanish sausages at the Boqueria market in Barcelona, though sadly I failed in my attempt to smuggle them back to the US. I thought the food at this humble little stand inside Boqueria was better than some bistro's of much higher renown. Barcelona is an incredible city, and while you are there you must visit La Sagrada Familia. Dessert at Espai Sucre

Excellent idea given that this thread has veered from its original purpose (in a good way.) I'd love to contribute if you'll have an overly enthusiastic home cook in the mix.

Re: (Recommended) Places To Eat List
Best bone marrow: RN74. http://www.yelp.com/biz/rn74-san-franciscoForget Alembic. Forget Baker & Banker. I'm really not a fan of capers and both places paired their marrow with it. RN74's bone marrow is simple. Seasoned with herbs and that's it. But the best part, it comes with bacon marmalade. You thought spreading marrow on bread was good. Wait until you top it off with this bacon marmalade. I had no expectations going to RN74 since I went late at night for HH. I don't drink so thought I'd check what their menu had to offer. I see that they offered bone marrow for $10 which isn't a bad price. The bacon marmalade sold me anyways. Their wait staff was on point. As busy as it was at the bar area, my waitress was great. Oh, I lied from earlier. Best part about the marrow is that the order comes with three pieces. However, on the menu it says marrows (w/ an S) for $10. When my bill came I was charged $15. I didn't bother saying anything since it was that fucking good. Three pieces was well worth $20 after tax and tip. I'm excited to go back to RN74 to try the rest of their menu. I'd recommend this place for now just for their bone marrow.

If michael mina didn't seem like such a dick then I would be ok with this. Alembic > over anything Mina does anyday. Capers rule. Get into it.
