(Recommended) Places To Eat List
Since I've moved up to San Francisco, always on the hunt for a good place to eat. Have been here and there, good and bad. Thought I'd start a thread to get more recommendations. I'll start off with a new sandwich shop my friend recommended in North Beach, Giordano Bros. http://www.giordanobros.com/Traditional Pittsburgh style all-in-one sandwiches. Basically your choice of meat topped w/ fries and slaw. And she also recommended to top it off w/ a fried egg. I got myself a pastrami and have to say, it's delicious. Would definitely recommend this place. I know I'll be going back quite often. And what's a food post w/o pics!

best egg custard tart things you'll ever eat. i believe they use lard and it will get the cardboard box all wet.... so you know they don't fuck around. when they go on vacation, they'll go for a month at a time because they don't give a shit.

Re: (Recommended) Places To Eat List
hahahaha...that's damn right. they're THAT good and they get THAT much business. i remember when my aunt first told me about that place and the insane lines they have out the door for these. ooooh man, having that for breakfast this morning would've been sweeeet. the crust is so flaky and the custard is amazing. definitely good call on this one! edit: so sad, so i talked with my mom about this today and she told me that the original cook who handled the egg custard tarts actually passed away a little while ago. but yet, she says their business is still as busy as ever most likely due to the secret recipe being passed on to the next person there/cook/owner. rhinomilk wrote: best egg custard tart things you'll ever eat. i believe they use lard and it will get the cardboard box all wet.... so you know they don't fuck around. when they go on vacation, they'll go for a month at a time because they don't give a shit.

Re: (Recommended) Places To Eat List
The best take-out Dim Sum in the Inner Richmond is Good Luck Dim Sum on Clement between 8th and 9th Streets. Something about 'em ... they seem to "care" more than the other joints in the 'hood (I've sampled 'em all.) If you're in the area or visiting Heroes Club toy store a couple of blocks away, stop in for a lunch or snack. You can fill up for three to five bucks, less if you just want a fresh pork bun or whatever. There are tables, but "good luck" getting one when they're busy. There's a line out the door every morning for a reason!

Re: (Recommended) Places To Eat List
I second rhino's choice of Golden Gate Bakery. But be prepared to wait. And thanks for the recommendation on Good Luck Dim Sum Dean. Will let you know what I think. Going back through my flickr, here's another recommendation. The Farmer's Market at the Ferry Building is always a fun place on Saturday to check out. It's also a great place to find some good eats. Here's my always got to go to spot, RoliRoti. ONLY AVAILABLE SATURDAY FOR FARMER'S MARKET. Their porchetta sandwiches are just amazing. I've tried their chicken and it's also really good. Don't forget to get a side of potatoes. They're roasted below with all the chicken and pork fat dripping on them. But be prepared to wait up to half an hour in line for the sandwich. ADVICE: If you're just wanting to try the chicken or potato, there's a much shorter line on the left side. TIP: The burger place to the left sells Virgil's!

Re: (Recommended) Places To Eat List
The following are picks for me:
Nopa -Best burger and Meal over all in the city(for me personally). forget gary danko
Ikes - obvs best sandwich in the city. nothing comes close.
Cancun - Best Taqueria/ burittos
Miette - Best candy/cake in the city. A little partial and I know all the ladies from the chestnut and ferry building location. The banana cream tart is fucking great.
Bi-rite- Salted caramel ice cream. You will wanted to kill your wife for this. for serious.
Burma Superstar - Simosa Soup and Tea Leaf salad are worth the 1.5 hour wait. But just call ahead. For the record: going with Flynn gets you red carpet treatment.
Bobs Donuts on Polk: The best donuts in the city but I haven't been to Dynamo.
Osha on union: Pineapple Duck confit. Made me eyes water because I was so happy.
Indian Oven on fillmore- forget what you heard about Dosa. This is it right here. BOOM
SuppenKuche - Beer out of boots and serious german sausage. Get the fuck out of here. Yes it's fucking real!
Little star or Paxtchi for pizza.
here are the ones for the serious foodies with no explanation because Im sure they've heard of them
Zuni Cafe... the chicken IS NO JOKE! GET IT! -RN74 (Michael Mina's only non-dumb sounding place) -Bar Tartine -Serpentine -Chapeau -Quince (right near S7. Willing to go with any visiting board member. Re: (Recommended) Places To Eat List
Great list Alex. A few places on there that I want to try. As for Bi-Rite Creamery, I'd say it's only ok. I've heard the Salted Caramel is worth it to try. I tried their Honey Lavender and Balsamic Strawberry and wasn't impressed. The Honey Lavender has a very strong lavender and milk taste. The Balsamic Strawberry just tasted like strawberry and the texture isn't very creamy. I'd recommend going over to Humphry Slocombe Ice Cream in the Mission. http://www.humphryslocombe.com/They have the craziest flavors. I like their Secret Breakfast and Blue Bottle Vietnamese Coffee. I'd also recommend Marco Polo Italian Ice Cream in Parkside. They're not very Italian by the name as they serve a lot of Asian fruit flavor ice cream/gelatos. I personally like the Guava flavor the best.

also want to try the lunch buffet at the Gold Club. Honestly, I confess... I'm not even much of an Ice cream person. I've tried both and gravitate towards neither establishment but more towards flavors. Still haven't tried Mitchells either. Anybody have good things to say about that place?
