Glad to hear it! As a diecast dude, it was great meeting so many members of this board! I had a blast this past weekend, and I'm hoping some members can be tempted to the dark side of diecast (not to give up on vinyl, just to expand your collecting tastes), much as I have been drawn to the vinyl side as of late. Here's an old pic of a portion of my collection to start things off. I've been meaning to get updated shots, and once I do, I'll start a new thread. But for now, this will give you non-diecast collectors a glimpse of what its all about.

I LOVE die-cast - but haven't had any since I was a kid.
(I now have a reason to check the vintage section of SB!)

Post Re: hanging out with the die-cast dudes works!
I started the path to the dark side that day by knocking out 2 birds with one stone by buying vintage and buying die-cast in the Shogun Warriors Great Mazinger (thanks Alan). There is one thing that I am hunting...not sure if Sanjeev remembers it...The Starcrow of Jan Kugo. I saw it on ebay a few weeks ago but it looks like it's gone now :(
Vintage for me will be a reclaiming of my past with a few select toys. Once I get those, it won't be a slippery slope...it will be like diving off a cliff.

What you actually need to find is this:

http://www.toyboxdx.com/datafiles/data/ ... oinbox.jpg

It includes all three ships and pilots. A nice set, but pretty costly.

Hehe...you guys crack me up!

But, yeah, Miles is right: that Astro-in-box is the DX set I was trying to remember at dinner the other night. That shit is killer...but goes for around 50 000 yen, if memory serves. Mason (bacon_ace) was talking about the popinica ships--they're a bit smaller and the pilot figs are all unpainted plastic, but the ships are all diecast and have great spring-loaded gimmicks.

I may try for for the Astro-in-box set (or the individual pilot chogokin figs) someday, but I feel pretty satisfied with the DX Queen right now...

Incidentally, I don't know if you guys had Force Five growing up, but that's how we, Eastcoasters, got to see Starzingers. Maxtoons has Spaceketeers on dvd if you're interested.

Yes...but I would be happy with just Jan Kugo's ship (especially with that set going for ¥50,000). I also had Starcopper but we didn't have Starbood. For now, I'm just trying to snag the toys I played with a lot. I've given up on finding the Volt In Box (talk about a heavy toy) because that is just way too much money and probably get the newer Bandai SoC version. When I was a kid running around the yard and pretending, I used to be Sir Djorgo cause I swam almost everyday in the summer time...but I always played with the Starcrow more than the Starcopper.

Sanjeev, have you bought that dvd? I'm wondering how the quality is.

Hey, that's cool. Recapturing the classics from one's childhood is key!

Yeah, the Volt In Box is nuts these days...just a few years ago, you could get one for $500. Now? It's way more! Still, I'd take the DX over the SoC any day of the week...but that's just me...

Anyway, I don't have those dvds from Maxtoons yet, but I've e-mailed them about the Spaceketeers set. The website mentions that they have 23 episodes, but my understanding was that there were 26 Force Five episodes...not sure what that's all about, so when I hear back from him, I'll letcha know.

Not to derail the thread too much, but if you're interested in the other Force Five shows, this guy has the other four (though his web store appears to be closed at the moment). I can vouch for him because I *do* have these dvds and their quality is amazing.

Nice...as of Jan 3rd, 2009:
The DVD catalogue is closed for now until further notice. All Force Five releases have been cancelled.

Force Five was the catalyst for my eventual decent into toy hell...Thanks to Mr. Big Toyland...399 Moody St . Waltham.

That shop is in almost all eastcoaster DNA perhaps.

...more like Mr. Neurotic c9 (but wishing it were 10)

I need to expand my food groups, so I figure adding some vinyl to my diet might do me some good.

Yeah man, Warren is the best. He does not even need to display his stuff...the aura of his collection is potent enough. Lol
But that was nothing compared to your video review of the Robotech to the Rescue Minmay housewife doll man. ;-)

Josh shows up wherever he feels his presence is needed. Like Superman, but without the cape and tights. Well, without the cape at least.

I don't actually remember seeing any Force Five here in NYC, but friends who had relatives in New Jersey or Philadelphia always mentioned it.

And hey, Mr. Big Toyland. Never went to this store, but found the video years ago while trying to find cool local toy store commercials.
