Swampfiend x Bad Teeth Comics "Cheese" Resin Toy

Thu Jun 06, 2013 4:03 am

Here's a toy that I made with a friend in his garage about a year ago. I have a comic strip here in Australia and this cheeseburger-headed guy is one of the main characters. We released a small numbered run at a comic convention late last year of Red & Yellow figs, but we haven't made any more due to other projects. We tested out a bunch of other colours including a GID variant.

These were all hand-poured and rotocast using our hands for about 25 minutes while the resin cured to save on materials. We may do another run in the future, but this is it for now!

I had a super rare burger the other day. Not the best thing in the world, medium rare is better for ground beef.

I read about these guys on spankeys site a while back. I looked around to buy one, realized they had all sold a bit ago. They look awesome though. The yellow one looks made out of foam.

Is it ketchup or catsup over there?

Haha toothaction is actually "Tomato Sauce" which is unfortunately an indication of how bland Australian culture is as a whole.. We have no real toy shops over here besides department stores, about 3 varieties of breakfast cereal and we still haven't seen light of cherry coke/pepsi!

Thanks Ironpaw! We only did a small run, but there's a brand new toy coming soon.. Check my instagram for some updates ;)

Hey Hellscrape I remember Giant Robot had a good 2-part video with Le Merde where he was talking about his process. Also the Vinyl Frontier DVD has a good featurette with Sucklord in the extras!

Man it's "scary" how quick you were to jump on that one.. You should write an episode of SVU! Or maybe jump on M. Night Shyamalan's writing team with mad skillz like that!

Anyway Scary Andy, how's your toy collection going? Working on a toy of your own? I haven't seen you post much other than wiseguy comments..

Sorry badteethcomics, but your last post was just stupid. You should probably take a break from posting and lurk more to learn and understand the culture around here

So true. I mean, some cats don't even take part on other threads other than the ones they start or are the focus of. The guy from the beet toy and mawanka come to mind.

To the OP, before getting all huffy, take a moment to get the feel for the place runs and the kinds of toys here, and then make an informed decision as to whether or not your KR knock-off resin chunk is going to be liked or not. You're not gonna get accolades for doing something that all art degrees in the country require to do, that is, have a two mold resin cast.

Ah fuck this has turned into a bit of a mess didn't it?? Anyway I just wanted to show off my first resin production as I thought it was a good first attempt for myself and Swampfiend who was just starting out as well. We wanted to make a slightly larger version of cheap old static freebies toys that you would find in a cereal box.

Being our first attempt we went for something clean and simple that could be customized easily with nice flat areas for painting.. I guess that's where the KR similarities come into it. It also made it easier for us to make our first mold and learn the process. We weren't going to start off making a huge multi-piece Zanga-type toy or something super detailed like MVH. We wanted to steer clear from overhangs and anything too crazy so that we could get comfortable with pouring and pulling the toys.

I've been collecting toys for years & lurking here for quite awhile and I thought this would be a good place where there was a strong culture of toy appreciation and creativity.

However there also a seems to be sub-culture of elitism and shit-talking. Before making assumptions about the new guy, take the time to check out my other posts and do your own research before filling my thread up with your bullshit.

I'm not looking for accolades, of course it's always nice to hear good words but useful, constructive criticism is even more appreciated. I don't appreciate being accused of ripping off KR, having a lack of knowledge about the culture or "the scene", trying only to sell my toys and having financial motives.. I haven't posted a direct link to an online shop here have I?

I can appretiate the work put in on this figure. It looks very clean and finished. Nice header card as well. I saw the one Mark N painted, looked nice, I'd be up for painting some Cheese :D

No offense but it's just like clockwork.
It's just another new member who's...'been lurking for awhile"/ doesn't post collection shots or try to fit in/ has a toy that he/she is trying to get word out to/gets mad when people mention it and opts for "give me a chance" type of rhetoric/you people are harsh etc/.

It's kind of a running theme for the past three years.

There really isn't an elitism vibe. There are a bunch of new board members who acclimate quite well and then there are others who join, don't try to pitch in, remain anonymous and get pissy about it when people don't kiss their ass.
