Post JAPAN PUNK and HxC
Cool to see a bunch of you guys are into extreme metal. We all dig the Japanese vinyl - what about Japan's amazing Punk and early Hardcore scene? It's the one genre of music I'll still pay outta my ass for rare records...anybody else down?

Aside from the well known maniacs like THE STALIN, GISM, OUTO, LIPCREAM, etc those interested should check out some dirtier stuff like ABURADAKO, LSD, G-ZET, KIKEIJI, etc. The list is endless.

I can put some stuff on my server if anybody wants to hear the rawest punk on the planet...

Fuck yeah! Japanese hardcore is great. I rarely buy new records anymore and the few that I buy are almost always Japanese hardcore.

I'll pay stupid prices for stuff on the ADK label, been trying to complete that catalog for over 10 years now. TAM (The Stalin, G-Zet) was a genius, totally underrated guitarist/producer...

James, have you ever seen the Sogo Ishii film Burst City?

I'm stoked I just found this video store the other day that has Burst City on DVD, I've only seen a nearly unwatchable Torrent of it before, infact I don't even think I watched more than the first 10 minutes of it.

I've seen Burst City. The music is great but the rest of the movie didn't do much for me.

Star Club anyone?

No, they're not in Burst City. Just checking if anyone else is into them.

They've been around forever and still going. One of my friends saw them when he was in Japan a couple years ago.

Burst City is a Japanese cult film from 1982 that's kind of like the equivalent of a Japanese Mad Max. it's basically about a future where punks and deviants run wild and fight with police.

but it has lots of old Japanese punk bands in the film, like The Stalin, Inu, etc. and they're all on the soundtrack.

here's a review I wrote of the U.S. DVD release for a now pseudo-defunct horror website I used to contribute to

my all time favorite jp punk band is teengenerate. Estrus put out some of their stuff in the us. Lo-fi and fast as shit. I remember hearing that they may have played a show in the US(chicago?). but it was pre-internet at the time so I dont if it happened.
as for hc Im into your typical stuff. Gauze being my favorite of the big ones.. All i have of envy is the split they did endeavor. BBQ chickens is great although its the only thing I can get into on that label. The name of the label escapes me right now but its done by one of the guys who was in hi-standard....

If your into the gism/lipcream vein try and pick up the split by nk6/dudman. totally awesome splt. I cant honestly remember the name of the label it came out on.

anybody ever been to the wall in shinjuku for a show? it rules and it feels like your in a movie because of how sketchy it feels.

Teengenerate did a US tour in the mid 90s with New Bomb Turks. I saw them twice on that tour and they even stayed at my house when they played here in Minneapolis. They played a couple reunion shows in 2005 in NY.
