Post Fresh Meat Question- Steel Jeeg -
Saw this incredible toy on toyboxdx.
Image
After a little research, I see that is from an anime called Steel Jeeg (Kotetsu Jeeg). I been to wikipedia and read the rundown but what I'm really interested in is where to pick up these toys. I'm really more into the whole "Baron Karza Variant" since this is where the OG micronauts came from. Are these still available?

Takara re-issued Geag in die-cast magnemo (magnetic) form several years ago...There are a few versions and I think your image is the clear version (but I am not sure).

I think this toy will be fairly easy to track down.

Yep, it's the clear version. There's also the solid color version, an all black version (probably the "Baron Karza" version you refer to), and one that comes with a "steed" you can swap out parts with. Also, Palisades reissued some Micronauts figures a few years back and I believe they did a Karza/Commander with that series. Ebay is your best bet for all of 'em.

I have heard that the Palisades Micronauts figures have various problems with all of them.

Can anybody confirm or deny?

I think Rog has first hand experience with them (I don't own any), but I've only heard bad things about the QC of the Palisades 'Nauts. Isn't Bwana a big Micronauts fan? He may know, too.

I got a few of the Palisades figs there are very poorly made, the baron Karza is very light and there is no way he'll stad long, before falling in to peices, I was so excited to get one, then only to find out how cheaply made. A freind of mine still has the old mego thick one, and It's still soilid

The first series of Palisades Micronauts, including the Baron Karza and Force Commander reissues, were of horrible quality. Many of the toys arrived broken in the box or on the card.

Off the top of my head, here are the various incarnations of the Takara Magnemo-11 Jeeg:

Japanese Originals:
Jeeg (the figure itself)
Panzeroid (his trusty horse)
Big Shooter (a jet that interfaced with Jeeg)

American Micronauts (using different heads):
Baron Karza
Andromeda (his horse)
Force Commander
Oberon (his horse)

European Micronauts (using different heads):
Emperor
Megas (his horse)
Green Baron
Pegasus (his horse)
King Atlas
Lantaurion (his horse)

Japanese Reissues:
Jeeg (regular colors, slight modifications from original mold)
Jeeg (clear)
Jeeg (black, different from Baron Karza or Emperor color scheme)
Panzeroid
Jeeg/Panzeroid set

I strongly recommend the reissues, they're awesome toys. Good pics of them are here:

More about the Micronauts issues are here:

http://www.bugeyedmonster.com/toys/micr ... agno.shtml

There were a TON of Magnemo-11 based toys that were based on these, including cowboys, barbarians, Marvel and DC superheroes, and Black Hole figures. And they're all compatible with each other because they use the same 11 mm balls and sockets.

thanks for all the info. They're actually doing a micronauts cartoon on cartoon network i hear (with bug from the comic i think). Got the news from Ken Kelley at NYCC. I almost bought a Terraphant print but got a Rainbow print instead. Thanks to S7 for that Ken Kelley issue... I had no idea who he was til I read that. Its my favorite issue of the old series to date (I don't have that many tho).

I got a baby due any day now so I'm going to have to live vicariously for a little while. Then I think I'm going to have to start the Microman collection.

Wow, I thought with all the licensing nightmares that an actual cartoon would be impossible to create. The Bill Mantlo/Michael Golden Micronauts run are my all time favorite comics.

I wonder if the cartoon will be an original story, or if they'll base anything off any previous Japanese or American material.

Oh, and Pallisade figures suck... joints are loose, lots of molding flash, just poor quality overall.

I saw Ken Kelly at Chiller Theatre and he told me the same thing about the cartoon. I believe that's what he was told, most likely by Marty Abrams and/or his son, but there's been a lot of vapor regarding new Micronauts stuff over the years. I'll believe it when I see it.

Hmmm the interwebs are not a wealth of information on the series, some aborted attempts are discussed but nothing on the new version. Strange thing is at NYCC Mr. Kelley had 2 - 20 foot tall banners repping the new micronauts cartoon at his booth.

And I was a big fan of the golden micronauts, not only that the end of the series was reallly fucking good too. It was one of the first "mature audiences" comics out that was sold straight to comic shops and not newstands (I know this from the wikipedia not memory or anything.

The entire run of Micronauts under the pen of Bill Mantlo was really fun. It had a few stagnant periods, but they did end really well, I thought... only to push things too far with the "New Voyages" second series. Ahhh... fond childhood memories.

And going back to Geag, I'm kinda surprised that there hasn't been a revival of the character yet... It was a strange storyline, and was somewhat reminiscent of Devilman with all sorts of strange demon-like enemies.

Actually, there is a Jeeg remake coming:

http://altjapan.typepad.com/my_weblog/2 ... jin_z.html

I'd love to have a Big Shooter one day, unfortunately all of the ones I've seen are in the $300-400 range and it's a pretty small toy. I've also heard that it isn't quite compatible with the pegs and holes on the Jeeg reissue.

Also, you haven't lived until you've heard the Jeeg theme sung in Italian. Do some Googling, the MP3 is out there.
