It was the 11:45pm showing. I dunno...it wasn't playing at the theatre I normally goto but it's a theatre I've been to before and the cost is usually at least $9 from what I remember...definitely abnormal price.

I agree - WAY too much talking (especially for the intended genre) in QT's half; which might not have been that bad if it wasn't the typical overly-mannered "I'm so clever" Tarantino dialogue. He'd better find another trick soon, 'cause a lot of this sounded like Reservoir Dogs rehashed.
Kurt Russell was great at first, though - I love how he actually used his aged/weathered appearance to enhance the character. I probably would have preferred to see a full-length version of Machete, though.

I will say, I have seen some totally boring, talky grindhouse movies in my day. they totally exist. however, when given the chance as a director to re-create one of those, or re-create a great action packed grindhouse movie, I don't know why you would choose the former. but who knows.
I had a friend say something interesting to me last night. apparently Stuntman Mike might not have had the scar in the second half of Death Proof, almost as if those events happened before the first half? did anyone else notice if this was indeed true?

My 2 cents:
I probably would have enjoyed both movies equally had I seen them on different nights, even consecutive nights, but as a 3 hour lump the overall experience falls short because of Death Proof.
Planet Terror is incredibly well done, from the intentional sloppiness to the various things that happen throughout the story (like the exploding cars) for no reason. It's perfect in almost every way, even though some of those crappy old horror films wouldn't have the budget to digitally paint out Rose McGowan's leg, or do that bit with the helicopter, whatever. I liked it a lot.
Loved the trailers. Thanksgiving might have been my favorite.
Death Proof, though. Hoo, boy. It's long, it's talky, it's filmed very well, it has many of Tarantino's classic hallmarks, and it doesn't belong. Perhaps if the Weinsteins had some sort of time travel apparatus, they could have gone back in time, held back Kill Bill, edited it down to to 90 minutes and it would have been PERFECT here. Death Proof, though, not so much. I get what he was doing, but it doesn't work here.
I might see it again just to see Planet Terror and the trailers.
