Post Newbie Introduction...
... because it seems like the right thing to do...

I just joined RFSO after lurking for a while. My name's Brian, I live in NYC, and I've been collecting toys for a long time. (Though I've focused mostly on vintage Japanese tin robots from the 40s, 50s and 60s, as well as vintage U.S. ray guns from the 30s-50s.) I've recently become obsessed with Secret Base's stuff, and now I've got yet another excuse to spend all my money.

I'm a journalist and documentary filmmaker, and just completed a doc on vinyl toys, which'll be out on DVD at Comic Con this year. But this isn't meant as a plug, so I'll leave it at that. (Though Mr. Pogue might be interested, since he's in it...)

My SB collection's small right now, and I'm definitely in awe of some of the other members' toy shelves... their photos give me something to aspire to, even as my wallet cries out in fear. Heh.

Now, I'm off to oggle other people's photos...

Welcome and be sure to notice the vintage section. If you have stuff as far back as the 40's, I'm sure everyone would love to see some images of your collection!

Ah. I wasn't sure if people were interested in tin... Though I did once write an article for Super 7 magazine on vintage Robby the Robots, so I suppose I should have guessed that there might be a little crossover with people who collect Japanese toys.

Here's a link to my web site -- lots of pics of toy robots and ray guns. Only one 'bot is from the 40s (just to clarify), though many of the ray guns date from the 30s and 40s. (Of course, the guns are all American, so may be of less interest to peeps.)

A few sections are still under construction, but the toys are all there. Enjoy.
