 I need a new camera
due to an unfortunate event at NerdQuake involving Lisa's cute friend, a vodka soda and my not so nimble hands my cannon sd600 is no longer in active duty. I need another camera but I think I want something a little nicer but still somewhat portable.
Any suggestions?

Something that isn't as big as an slr and not as small as a compact camera is the Canon S3 IS. I own it and it takes great pictures. I highly recommend it.

Canon Digital Rebel XTi

not terribly portable, but definitely a step up from point and shoot.

that's two posts i've seen in as many days
I'm getting an SLR in about a month or so, and the Canon Rebel XTi is also really great. I agree though moco..the D40x is a great camera as well!

if you want to go SLR, I can recommend the Nikon D200. My buddy just got a D80 for his trip to peru, and the pictures came out stellar. Definitely not portable, and you can spend a small fortune on lenses. Most times I need to snap something though, i end up pulling out the trusty canon SD500.
