I run my stereo into my sound card and use a program called audiograbber. You need to download the LAME.dll and drop it in the audiograbber program folder in order to rip mp3s with a good bitrate. Audiograbber will split the tracks automatically by detecting the silence between songs. It won't run on a Mac though.
