 Re: little big...
Thanks Sumatra,
Just one more thing to add. Staple a home made header and bag of 10 same painted figures and release it is called "Unofficial Run". This is a BIG NO NO.

As for making a unofficial run, I think this is not a very good idea. To explain as best as I can....
Yes, you bought couple of solids with your own money, but think of what the word "RUN" means. It means that the figure you have made a custom run of to sell still has the figures companies name on it. To people who does not know that is "Unofficial" may think that it was a collaberative run. People in Japan may see it as," This company does collabs with fans. Maybe I should hit him up, and if he says no, then I'll bring this topic up". As you can see, it is very annoying if you are a creator for such figure and start getting millions of calls and being yelled at or debating about something you never heard of. With Mori, this has come up many time when I have talked to him. Doing a "commission work" is fine. The customer knows you as a artist and wants a one of a kind for their collection. Posting a custom you did and one person is interested is fine. They like it, they want it, they buy it. But startting a "Unofficial Run" is just disrespectful to the maker of the figure. Not talking to them about doing it and just going ahead and selling a run is just not a good idea. Another way of thinking is, RxH is popular right now. Everybody is buying SOLIDS and customizing for fun. Make a run thats awesome and sure you'll make cash. But would it be the same if it wasn't popular??? To me, it just seems that if something is hot, it's a window for making cash. Do you think the makers would like to know that also? I don't think they would. SOLIDS were made so the customizers here can have fun and make their own one of a kind. Experience what the makers in Japan has to do. I've also talked to some of the guys in Japan, and many have told me that there is not alot of interest in custom painting a figure. Still more people prefer model kits like Gundam and so on. Sorry to make this long. But I thought I should let you guys know what I feel and what I have heard before. Go and buy SOLIDS to paint, do commission work and so on. But don't buy it just to make a run and selling it to make some big cash. I prefer Gundam on an Evil!! hehehehehehe. I wonder what other customizers think about this? I don't think it's right doing unofficial releases... but I always thought bootlegs for music was always cool. It was a sign of respect and dedication besides the obvious... I wonder how Michelin feels for Kaws? And what are some creators think outside of Jp? I bet Killer J hasn't even thought about it when he did the RxH customs and sold them here.

 Re: little big...
I think that about brings it home Hiro and great point about the popularity of the figure versus the talent of the artist. It does seem that most artist are solely using the most popular RxH toys for their work, not much, if any Blobpus, Cronic or even less popular RxH figs (Jinger-R, Bero, etc. . .) being customed and pimped.
The main thing is see is the disregard for other, in this case Japanese, cultures and their beliefs. The proper homage and respect are trumped by the "I do what I want to do" mentality that we seem to cultivate (see numerous country that doesn't adopt the perfect democratic society we have in the U.S.).
If you're going to paint Japanese vinyl, learn your craft, pay it proper respect and approach it with humility and you have my respect. Unofficial runs, bootlegs and painting over "rare" pieces is lame, but that's my opinion and I'm sure the debate will rage on.

 Re: little big...
Interesting points about "unofficial runs." I never thought about it that way, but it completely makes sense.
On another note, I don't think painting over "rare" items has gone over well with anyone here!

 Re: little big...
I do know Buff met the Gargamel guys at SDCC last year...so chances are this was a pretty legit thing for his show at GR...thanks to Pogue for pointing this out as the disinfo gets nuts here sometimes.
