Post Does anyone have a LCD TV above a fireplace ?
I'm moving and the only place I can put my TV is above the fireplace in my new apartment. I've been looking for info but all I seem to find is info on plasmas.

Does anyone else here have their LCD placed above their fireplace and if so could anyone help me out with advise ?

There has to be someone here who knows this.

If you are using the fire...then I'd say no. Any smoke that gets out of the fireplace is going to discolor your screen.

Well this is what I was thinking. I was gonna get one of the mounts that extend. I found one that extends a few feet. And when I use the fireplace just extend it. When not in use keep it close to the wall.

Wood burning and LCD burning fireplace... I would not, too much of a risk

Even if you rig it safely keep in mind it wil be a distraction when the fire is being used while you try to watch TV.

Does the fireplace have a mantle? If so, the mantle should protect the TV from most, if not all of the heat put off by the fire.
And you shouldn't have to worry about smoke. If there is enough smoke getting into the room to damage the TV, you should be more worried about carbon monoxide poisoning. You just have to be extra careful to remember to open the flu before lighting the fire. You'd be suprised how many people forget.

I have an LCD above my fireplace and absolutely no problems. It is a gas fireplace though, not a wood burning. Still shouldn't be a problem. Almost every fireplace has one of those slanted "deflectors" above it which helps shoot the heat out into the room instead of going straight up. And yeah, smoke should be going up the flue and out instead of into the room.

I've had wood burning fireplaces quite close to very expensive hifi equipment before as well and had no problems. Is it ideal? Of course not but you shouldn't have any major/immediate problems.
