I absolutely despise detolfs...

I have 4. Probably in need of a 5th soon. I hated them for small toys, but learned to love them for 12" figs

the deltofs look nice as a showcase type setup, but i prefer the open style. i pick my toys up a lot, and having them sitting out seems more inviting to me.

no character in a detolf...I'll take my beat up shelves ..I would like to avoid dust..but I dont want any store display stuff ..I'll find something someday

The closest Ikea to me is not close at all---6 to 8 hour drive depending on which way I go... My case is a china cabinet top, but it is overflowing at this point...the down side that I see to detolfs is that you have to be an expert in space management and have a good riser connection, both of which I am no good at.

I think Johnny has the best idea with "diy" cabinets, but he is a pro and my own woodshop was state of the art in 1890...saw, hammer, planer and sweaty operator---hence no awesome toy display

Yep, my philosophy as well. I keep them on bookshelves simply because I handle them a lot. Also, they seem more like toys and less like collectibles when they're not behind glass. They're just begging to be monkeyed with and re-arranged.

Maybe if everyone petitions we can get the descriptions of shelves to not only included CD/DVD/VHS capacity but also how many Standard/Fight/Cyborg figures it would hold

i forgot what mine is called, but it was about twice the cost of a detolf but alot shorter and wider. its cool but not very deep so it fills up very quickly. i'm looking at other stuff, the next one i'll probably get is called a 'veska' (i think) for about $295 AUS. i don't even have boxes so all the toys that can't fit in my cabinet just sorta sit in a neat pile on the floor. shit is expensive.

i like my detolfs, keeping the dust out is a major plus, since i hate to clean anything, and cleaning toys would be such a pain in the ass. i open them up all the time to play with stuff whenever i get the urge, and theyr fun to re arrange too. i could see why people dislike them tho. (plus with the dioders they light up REAL nice!)

didnt read the whole thread but saw people wondering if ikea still makes the tops and base's in black, i got my 2nd detolf in august, and both mine are black. (this was in paramus NJ).

I have the best of both ikea worlds I guess. I own two Detolfs (soon to own a 3rd in November) and I own the 25 slot giant Expedit shelf. If I ever tire of the detolfs I can always go open shelf style with the toys.

Honestly as much as it would be awesome to do I like them better in the detolfs. I loathe dusting and detolfs really keep the toys dust free. You might have a little every 6 months tops. Besides where would I put the 1000's of records in the expedit? Doubt the detolfs would hold vinyl well

Now if only I didn't have to leave the country to go to Ikea!

Love the dust protection, as Fresno is a filthy place, and notorious for dust problems.

Deltofs are ugly. Even if I decided "I want glass/plastic coverage for dust protection" I'd find some type of other case.

1- Deltofs take up floor space and serve no other purpose, that's impractical and drives me nuts. I'd need something wall mountable or where at least HALF of it was a book shelf or served another purpose. 2- They're so sterile (broken record, I know) and museum-esque and cold. I want my place to be a little more fun/interesting than a museum.

That's just me though. For now the toys are all open on a dresser and some on a book shelf. I'd like a covered/protected unit for them, but it's gotta have more style than a Deltof.

I need at least 2 more............ maybe 3...............

Bert, funny you said this because detolfs remind me more of those bulky wooden "curio" cabinets every household has until now. The carved ones are mostly preferred.
