Yeah, Hausu is a absolute classic, there's some long raving rant about it on here somewhere. I screened it last month and the poor punters were pretty shell shocked afterwards, great stuff!

I can't wait for Robo Geisha!!! Jealous you got to see that.
Still annoyed I missed Vampire Girl v Frankenstein Girl at FF, but I was knackered and couldn't face the night bus journey home.

Regretfully, I had to skip out on a few midnight showings to get some sleep. Somehow watching that many movies made me feel drunk, also those free drink tickets didn't help either. Before the screening they announced Hausu will be getting a dvd release from Criterion next year, I can only hope it gets the full treatment it deserves.

That is good news indeed!
Criterion have owned the rights for years, so it was only a matter of time, but yay!

Anyone see Memories of Murder?

I really didn't like Host, but after seeing memories I think I need to see it again.
Not sure if this really fits in this thread, but I'm interested.

Funny - I've just rewatched Memories of Murder with a friend who hadn't seen it yet yesterday! That film is so amazing on so many levels, from the beautiful opening shots to its bitter ending that always manages to kick the breath out of me. Despite playing out as a quirky, hyper-dark comedy for a lot of its runtime (especially in the first hour) I believe this film has a lot of things to say about human nature. I absolutely love it, one of my favourite Korean movies. I thought The Host was great, too and I can't wait to see Mother!

Have you seen Tokyo! (Bong Joon-ho did the third episode) or The Chaser yet?

The Chaser is pretty great. It gets a little gruesome at times though. I loved Memories of Murder too. The music in that film is just incredible. It has purpose, it drives the narrative, and is conceptually interesting. It's how music should be used in film.

I just recently saw Michel Haneke's newest film THE WHITE RIBBON. That blew my mind too. Go see it if you can. And if you have not seen Cache, see it!

It hasn't played here in SF yet but I'm hoping it will prior to DVD release. Can't wait, it looks like something different and new for Haneke. Glad you liked it.

I think it's going to get fairly wide distribution. Sony Pictures Classics picked it up.
