Post Boxer's Omen - Shaw Brothers
Has anyone seen this movie?
It's positively insane!
And that's an understatement, I was exhausted after seeing it.

Man, I LOVE Bolo Yeung! And the Shaw Brothers, of course (The Five Deadly Venoms, anyone?). I will definitely check this out. Thanks.

Also mixing martial arts with horror, has anyone ever see The Legend of the Seven Golden Vampires (with Peter Cushing, no less)? One of my favorites, though its a lot tamer than this sounds to be.

Ha ha, well put! You should check out Seeding Of A Ghost, that one is also rather wacky... More on the Wu Xia side of things, but nonetheless totally bonkers and well worth checking out for fans of psychedelic cinema: Portrait In Crystal, The Battle Wizard & Buddha's Palm!

I realised that I have a tendency to use the phrase "bat shit crazy" I wouldn't say I over use it, I certainly reserve it for nutzo things, but now I have a new bench mark. I suspect that bat shit crazy was coined while someone was describing this film.

Thanks bunnyboy, i'll hunt that down, I am definitely going to explore this corner of movie nuttiness more.

smo9monster, the film is relentless, the first 10 minutes are odd, but in now way set you up for what is ahead. And though I would like to say that clip is the climax, it's not :)

Have fun! Although I believe you might have spoilt yourself a bit by watching Boxer's Omen first, I saved that one up for last when catching up with all the SB Gong Tau stuff. Black Magic is also enjoyable, although it is some ten years older and more of a set up for the madness that would be BO...

And "classic" SB stuff is of course also great, but a whole different thing - "the uninitiated" might just have their minds blown to bits when looking for more Shaw Bros. films like The Boxer from Shantung and stumbling upon Boxer's Omen instead! :D

Post Re: Boxer's Omen - Shaw Brothers
Yeah, Boxer's Omen is wild.
The only other Chih-Hung Ku film I've seen, "Bewitched", has some pretty kooky sfx scenes but they don't happen as frequently as in Boxer's Omen.
Saw another Chih-Hung Ku for sale a while ago called Corpse Mania. Would anyone recommend that one?

Chang Cheh made an interesting movie called "Heaven and Hell" that I didn't know existed until it was put out on dvd in the U.S. a few years ago. I've only seen a handfull of his movies, but I'd venture to say Heaven and Hell is the most bizarre.
