Let the right one in proper subtitles
I know I started a thread for LTROI DVD and the issues with the DVD but seems its gone now. So I'm just posting here that the Best Buy in my area restocked this title and now have a few copies of the DVD with the theatrical subtitles. I know a few of you where looking for this also so If anyone is interested let me know and I can pick it up for you. I know I had a hell of a time finding this corrected version.

Cool. Thanks.
Is there an ISBN or something to clearly identify it from the first release??

I'm assuming they are getting ready for the Christmas shopping season as these just popped this week. I was hoping for the Blu Ray to be corrected but now dice here.

Re: Let the right one in proper subtitles
Here's some news... Quote: Before we sign off for the week, however, I do have one quick update for you on Let the Right One In. As we posted yesterday, Magnolia has finally re-released the Region 1 DVD version in the States with corrected theatrical subtitles, but a corrected Blu-ray version is still MIA here. HOWEVER, the good news is that if you love the film and you just can't wait for Magnolia to get its BD fix in stores... we're told that Momentum Pictures' U.K. Blu-ray release (available here at Amazon.co.uk for about $22 USD shipped to the States) DOES have the correct theatrical English subtitles AND it's an all-region disc, compatible with U.S./Region A players. Thanks to all you crafty/import-savvy Bits readers who sent us e-mails to let us know about this edition. Where there's a will, there's a way... EDITOR'S NOTE: We're now getting reports that the DTS-HD MA track on this import BD is defective, and that Momentum will have fixed copies available soon. Wait to order your copy until we've confirmed that fixed copies are in stock at Amazon.co.uk. Guess this film just had bad luck all around on Blu...]

Re: Let the right one in proper subtitles
I am glad they are issuing the correct subtitles, but I am pissed they won't replace the orig disc w/ the new. I may re-buy it when it drops way down (and get blu-ray).

Re: Let the right one in proper subtitles
I saw a version cheap at Border's near my office the other day.
I'll look and see what version it is today and let folks know.

Re: Let the right one in proper subtitles
Do the corrected subtitles really make that much of a difference? I "found" a version and watched it before the US dvds came out and was not impressed, I'm assuming anything with english subs at the time would've been the incorrect version?

The 'found' version had much better subtitles then the US DVD did or I am willing to bet that's the case. Fansubs are usually pretty good or totally ridden with misspellings and such. If you were not impressed with the movie well the subtitles won't help. The bad subs were a very dumbed down version of what was being said. You would be able to understand what the characters were saying but you would lose any of the nuances or dark humor the characters may have been conveying.

Re: Let the right one in proper subtitles
Thanks, I probably won't bother seeking it out.
The subs were pretty well done from what I recall, but it was a bit before the dvds hit so most likely fan now that I think about it, unless a really early leak.

Re: Let the right one in proper subtitles
I haven't seen it and just read that they are making an English remake of this movie..which will most likely be terrible.
Just ordered the book on amazon a few days ago. I think I'll try it out and then watch the movie via the recommendations.

Re: Let the right one in proper subtitles
Ah okay. Does anyone know how different the book is from the movie? Everyone seems to really like the movie with the right subtitles

Some things are less subtle in the book than the movie. I started to read the book, but I'm horrible at reading fiction so got distracted by a flashy light or something, but everyone I know who has read it, loved it.

Re: Let the right one in proper subtitles
I just watched this on Sky movies, what subtitles did it have i wonder. I liked it a lot, but i hav'nt read the book. My wife has and she said they'd left quite a bit out of the film, but she still enjoyed it.

Re: Let the right one in proper subtitles
The book is darker & there are some differences. I will be general -no 'spoilers'. The nature of Eli is explained fully (no ambiguities as w/ the movie). There are no vaguaries about Eli's 1st caretaker being a child molester and 'real life' monster. He plays a stronger role in the book and does not go away quite so quickly. Oskar is more disturbed in the book - full of revenge fantasies and a potential to act on these. After reading the book, I watched the movie again and felt it pulled the punches on the nature of abuse (a strong theme in the book) and almost had a 'coming of age' vibe that was not in the book. The book is good & a quick read - go for it.

Re: Let the right one in proper subtitles
I loved the movie with the 'bad' subtitles, so I can only imagine how much better it will be with the good ones.
As for the book, I bought it just after seeing the movie when it first came out on DVD. I started it, but set it aside, because the movie was still too fresh in my mind. I'm currently reading the Scott Sigler 'Infected' novels, and enjoying the HELL out of them, but after I finish, I am going back to the LtRoI book. I think the movie is far enough in the past, the book will seem 'new' to me again..
