whoever thinks clerks 2 was as good as or superior to clerks 1 should have their netflix privileges revoked!

After suffering through 'Jersey Girl' I thought it was a return to form.

haha ok i'll give you that

i made the mistake of watching clerks II for the first time immediately after watching clerks. it was funny at times, but it abandoned almost everything that made the first great - the low budget feel, the bad acting with interesting, everyday type conversations, the lack of a hollywood formula. the first movie felt a lot more real in a way

and rosario dawson should not have been the love interest! way too hot for that guy!

Your criticisms are spot on. And me calling it as good as the first one are a bit of an exagerration. To me, it's close though. It's 10 years of 'movie time' between part 1 and 2, and I thought the maturation (what little there is) of Randall and Dante rang true. I agree about Rosario Dawson. I think they tried to play down her good looks, but it didn't work. We all know what she really looks like!

regardless of which one is better, Randall's character rules in both! the whole LOTR rings bit was sooooo awesome! and when he gives Dante shit about waving to the boss moments before she walked in was classic randall pov.

I love Clerks and Clerks II equally, but Clerks II was much better than Zach and Miri Make A Porno.

Actually Stephen King is rumored to be writing a sequel to The Shining called "Doctor Sleep", so this might not be as far-fetched as you think. :)

Quote:
Last night at Toronto’s packed Canon Theatre, fans of Stephen King were treated to a 15-minute reading from the author’s new novel, Under the Dome, and nearly an hour’s worth of typically funny anecdotes and keen observations during an on-stage interview with director David Cronenberg. Then King dropped a fan bombshell on the crowd by casually describing a novel idea he began working on last summer. Seems King was wondering whatever happened to Danny Torrance of The Shining, who when readers last saw him was recovering from his ordeal at the Overlook Hotel at a resort in Maine with fellow survivors Wendy Torrance and chef Dick Halloran (who dies in the Kubrick film version). King remarked that though he ended his 1977 novel on a positive note, the Overlook was bound to have left young Danny with a lifetime’s worth of emotional scars. What Danny made of those traumatic experiences, and with the psychic powers that saved him from his father at the Overlook, is a question that King believes might make a damn fine sequel.

So what would a sequel to one of King’s most beloved novels look like? In King’s still tentative plan for the novel, Danny is now 40 years old and living in upstate New York, where he works as the equivalent of an orderly at a hospice for the terminally ill. Danny’s real job is to visit with patients who are just about to pass on to the other side, and to help them make that journey with the aid of his mysterious powers. Danny also has a sideline in betting on the horses, a trick he learned from his buddy Dick Hallorann.

The title for King’s proposed sequel? Doctor Sleep.

Perhaps sensing that he’d let the cat out of the plot bag a little early, King then told Cronenberg and the audience that he wasn’t completely committed to the new novel, going so far as to say, “Maybe if I keep talking about it I won’t have to write it.”

Oh, and King being interviewed by Cronenberg? /nerdgasm

Sheesh, I had no idea, but thank you for the interesting quote. Seems like King will never be able to let go of his resentments about Kubrick's adaptation, but trying to reclaim the book by writing a sequel is probably a mistake. Let it go, Stephen.

He'd do better to sell movie rights to "Under the Dome" if he hasn't already. It got fairly good reviews.

I finished The Dome last week, it was his best work in a while.

And it is being adapted for TV by Steven Spielberg (well, he's producing it at least).

Waitaminute, before I totally derail the thread into a Kingfest, I never made my prediction. :)

I got one. How 'bout Eddie Murphy playing every single character in a sequel to "The Golden Child"?

p.s. if you dismissed Norbit, reconsider. That shite is one of the funniest godam movies I have seen it like 8 times....

I thought everyone was waiting for a sequel to ET. (?)
I'd check it out.

What I'm really waiting for is a sequel to Repo Man.
(you got it, time machines...)

Man, I'm like the sequel news bearer up in this thread. Actually, a sequel (different characters, but directed by Alex Cox) to Repo Man is finished, and was shown at this year's Venice Film Festival.

From Wikipedia:
Quote:
On December 3, 2008, a spiritual sequel was reported to be going into development with the working title Repo Chick. The film will be produced by David Lynch. The story will be set against the backdrop of the present economic downturn and a boom in repossession that extends far beyond cars and homes. On 13 February 2009, Cox announced on his personal blog that shooting had finished and the film was now in post-production. The bulk of the film was shot in front of a green screen, with backgrounds filmed and composited in during post-production. Universal sent Cox a cease-and-desist, since Cox does not possess the rights to do an official sequel, but he ignored it, as his film uses none of the characters from the original. The film premiered on September 8 at the Venice Film Festival. Plans for a proper theatrical release have not yet been announced.
