From where I cam from it was a golden dream I was never able to touch. Just those 2-in-1 Arcades they had (or was it 3?) I don't think I knew 1 kid with one my whole life.

Indeed!, it was Sam Sho that drew me in as a kid in the 90s. I thought Gen An was so bad ass with his Freddy Krueger claw. I remember seeing the systems for $600 and the games for $300. I didn't finally own one until 8 years or so ago. Metal Slug 3 to this day is probably my favorite video game ever.

Cool thing was at the time they were still releasing games and did so up until 2004, with Samurai Shodown V Special. And the biggest surprise in 2003 was actually releasing the long rumored SNK vs. Capcom Chaos.

They have 1 slot, 2 slot, 4 slot, and 6 slot. You can actually make this little box called a supergun and hook it up to the small 1 slot arcade board, which hooks up to your tv like a video game system allowing you to buy and play the actual arcade cartridges which are the same price as todays video games, versus the expensive Neo home cartridges etc..

2004, I believe it was the last true release. Some protos are still being released today which is badass.

So many great games have come out in the 2000s, it was amazing to watch how far they pushed the old hardware. There was/is so much life left in it for the 2D fan. Not to mention the gorgeous artwork on the carts:

Post Re: Neo Geo
A few years back I went through a huge videogame nerd phase and bought a Neo Geo home system, amongst other things. After a while it was just collecting dust, so I sold everything I had for it. But, of course, I've started having some thoughts of reacquiring one or some sort of candy cab setup. Nothing compares to the actual games. My favorites (out of what I had): King of Fighters 98, Metal Slug 3, Baseball Stars 2 and Last Blade. If you like hardcore 2D fighters, it's the system to have. The only thing that really disappointed me about the system is the lack of good beat 'em ups. I had Sengoku 3 and it was okay, but nothing spectacular.

I had one just like this with a 4-slot motherboard until it went underwater. I had Last Blade 2, King of Fighters 2001, Samurai Shodown 4, and Rage of the Dragon. I still miss that machine to this day.

Excellent game choices, I love Rage Of The Dragons, that and Matrimelee really showed the crazy new directions it was still going in. The game I have been playing like a crackhead lately is Ghostlop, it was a proto that was never officially released but someone dumped the roms and it received a unofficial release. Incredibly addictive
