I'm starting to wonder why people care anymore.
I can't even tell you the last time I watched the prequel trilogy because of all of this kind of thing, and of course episodes 1-3.

There was a DVD release with them. I mean they were just transfers from VHS but it's true to form, no touch ups, no BS. The originals would look like crap on bluray anyway unless they were "touched up" some way or another.

I bet after years he'll re-re-re-re-release them "untouched" and charge a billion bucks. Because next is 3D. More touch ups no doubt.

For my two cents, while I also shelled out the extra for the bonus-disc sets, GL purposefully released these only as extras, and in the shittiest quality possible, to turn people off from ever watching them. Yeah, it is great that I can now watch them easily in digital format, but let's be honest here, it is pretty brutal. The VHSs from my widescreen box far outdo these for quality, despite the technology being sorely dated. If you really want the best original quality it is in the laserdisc versions (these were the source material for the collector's set), but those are definitely not convenient for home viewing. I am not sure he will ever allow the OT to be released unedited, so I will hold on to archaic versions.

a laserdisc ripped dvd would be nice! I need to get my hands on the dvd's with the originals as extras, bad quality or not. I havent seen star wars in way too long because I cant handle watching the special editions : ( and now blinking ewoks and vader yelling "noooo" gime a break. I like the originals because of all the amazing puppets and then they go and throw piles of puke like a CGI jaba and random aliens in the mix :x

The untouched dvds aren't anamorphic widescreen though.
I don't mind remastering so things look fine on a new format but,
its just insane at this point they aren't the same movies.
lol

I still have the originals on Laserdiscs but I'm not sure I have a working player any longer. I'll have to dig one up someplace.

Doesn't Lucas preach to everyone that the world is ending next year? Didn't he go through a phase in the 70's where he didn't speak? And now this Vader saying NO, Blinking Ewoks, Obi Wans retard scream, ect... The guy is clearly crazy.... And he has fucked up Star Wars yet again.

After reading the above post I totally want a shirt that says "VADER SAYS NO TO DRUGS!" with Darth pointing like Uncle Sam. Off you go shirt designers...steal my idea and send it off to teefury. Won't be the first time.

Haha I guess but I'm happy with that DVD release. I was happy with the VHS but DVD's last longer and I can skip chapters.

Screen quality isn't something I look for in movies before 1999. I'm not a maniac about it. The "quality" on the DVD's are fine with me, I don't cringe watching them. I'd rather watch those then tossing in the other discs that came with that set where it's touched up with bullcrap. I have low standards for things like that though.

I'm reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally glad I have no F'ing idea what you people are talking about, the first time he started adding CGI I watched for all of 30 seconds before I popped in the real star wars and I've killed all the brain cells that had anything to do with watching the prequels

They are his movies, he can fuck them up as he pleases - stop giving him your hard-earned if it bugs you - that's what I did.

At this point, I think he just does it to torture aging nerds - mission accomplished!

So Star Wars nerds what are the definitive DVD editions of Episodes I-VI? This coming from an old fuck who was dropped off at the mall by his parents at age 8 in 1977 and told "You're going to love this movie! we'll see you when it's over." I also remember just prior to Episodes I-III coming out in 1998 they showed new cuts of the original movies with added effects and I loved the new version of Empire. Topic came up recently with my g/f about buying them all and then I saw this post. So if I were to try an find all 6 on DVD what ones do I need to look out for?

The Vader clip made me want to gag, too, but maybe it works within the context of the light saber construction sequence, which I think really flows. It's a tough call. The thing I've noticed is that with every new format, there is some kind of tweak, like we've been buying his swag for so long that he thinks we'll turn our backs if there isn't some new gimmick. I refer you to the scrolling text in the 1979 theatrical re-release... this has been going on for decades, but we didn't mind when we were kids :)

This is good: Back in 1988, Lucas delivered a speech to Congress "People who alter or destroy works of art and our cultural heritage for profit or as an exercise of power are barbarians."

I heard he was adding a sex scene where there will be controversy over who cums first -Greedo or Hans.

EXCELLENT point. Of course, that was his first and last revision that changed things for the better.
