Shigeru Mizuki & Hayao Miyazaki - Two little books.
I found this little book by Shigeru Mizuki and i thought i would share some scans. Whilst waiting for the English translations of GeGeGe no Kitaro to be published i've been searching for other books by the Yokai master. This is a really cool one i've come across . . . . its about half Japanese text and half double page illustrations in a 105mm x 150mm paperback format. Even though the book is quite small the detailed drawings are expertly reproduced. If you are a Shigeru Mizuki fan I highly recommend you track this one down! Does anyone know which edition of his Yokai Encyclopedia is the best one to get? Or do you know any other interesting Shigeru Mizuki books that are worth tracking down?More scans on my Flickr stream Encyclopedia of Afterlife by The Moog Image Dump, on Flickr Encyclopedia of Afterlife by The Moog Image Dump, on Flickr Encyclopedia of Afterlife pages by The Moog Image Dump, on Flickr Encyclopedia of Afterlife pages by The Moog Image Dump, on Flickr Encyclopedia of Afterlife page by The Moog Image Dump, on Flickr

Wow - beautiful work. I'm not too familiar with the artist, but will have to look into him when I have some free time. Thanks for the share!

Sweet, nice pickup Moog. I've found a lot of Japanese books are just stunning visually, they really take them seriously, and have bought a couple here and there for the art/photography alone.

Great score and share, Joe! You can really get lost in those drawings.

^^^ yep, and what i've scanned is just the tip of the iceberg. I love the density of detailed work condensed into such a portable publication. The Japanese design esthetic never fails to blow my mind!. Another comparable find was 'The Journey of Shuna' by Hayao Miyazaki which i picked up in the Ghibli Museum, Mitaka. Written and illustrated by Hayao Miyazaki, its a kind of a dry-run for Nausicaä. This one is full colour Manga. Wow, both books look so beautiful. And there is a Ghibli museum?! I can probably not imagine how awesome that must be!?
