Post Re: iTunes 11 question
Well I did the update, but can someone let me know a way to manually add songs from a PC (already authorised with iTunes) to a device without using the sync? I have done all the usual 'manually sync songs' with iTunes, and it recognises that, but I still can't add the new music. I don't have all the mp3s on the computer I am using, so I don't want to erase everything and therefore can't resync. Would love any help here.

On of the things I actually miss most is the way the cover art used to show up in the bottom left corner, I can't figure out if there is a way to bring that back or not yet...

You can't bring it back in the same manner that it used to display, that is, within the app's GUI proper. However if you click on the tiny album art icon at the top of the app, it'll open up the floating cover art/mini-player thingie so that you can have it on your desktop, if you like. You can then adjust that to whatever size you want it to be. Not the same as before, but close.

If anyone is interested, I actually did figure out that you can can get around iTunes and manually add new songs without having to resynch and losing everything already loaded.

For windows (at least): If you have the manually managing enabled, and I also have home share activated, but not sure if this makes a difference or not, since I have not used it on the other PCs though it says you have to. Open iTunes and then connect your i device. After it is recognised, make sure to uncheck the 'sync' process. Then use the drop-down menu to open the side toolbar. Select the device and open the 'music' section [for example]. Then find the folder on your computer with the files you want to add. Use Control+C to copy the desired ones, then go back to iTunes and highlight the folder you want to move them to (e.g. Music) and use Control+V. You should then see a sync message, but only for the new songs you selected. This worked for me with the new iTunes 11.

Post Re: iTunes 11 question
Has anyone that is running WinXP been having problems with iTunes? My computer has been messed up for months now, so this could just be yet another symptom of it, but I am curious to know if they stopped support for XP or not. I have reinstalled iTunes several times and it won't work properly, and when I tried to do a restore, my older version was also unable to reload - so now I am left with halfway installed version of the new one, and it won't recognise anything.

So without me having to download it, can someone tell me if iTunes 11 ever fixed the remember scroll position? Basically when you switch say btw your main library and a playlist it will remember where in your library you were -i.e. if you have your library by artist alphabetically and you were in say 'G' and then go to a playlist when returning to your main library you would still be where you left off in 'G' not all the way back to the top in 'A' . This was never an issue till 11 (see previous posts). Reason I ask because I'm thinking of finally going to OSX Mavericks but I will stick with Snow Leopard still if this isn't fixed. Shame one little problem with iTunes will make me keep an outdated OS but I'm willing given how much I use iTunes (for managing music what it was designed for!) not bells and annoying whistles.

Post Re: iTunes 11 question
Hadn't seen this thread before, but I'm one of those folks who upgraded to iTunes 11 and immediately regretted the decision as well.

After going through the rigmarole of installing the freeware necessary to downgrade back to 10.7, the only real damage done was losing the play counts built up on songs/albums.

Does anybody know if iTunes 11 comes prepackaged when upgrading to Mavericks???
I think that might be the only chance I have to get Flickr to actually work on my mac...

You can't upgrade to Mavericks without being forced into iTunes 11, I'm almost positive it's bundled in there somewhere. This is why I've waited so long on the free Mavericks upgrade, for the sheer avoidance of being forced into iTunes 11!

Anyhow so my question doesn't get buried in responses that don't answer it: does anyone know if the scroll position (remembering where you left off) was ever fixed in iTunes 11?

Soooo...

Has anyone been brave enough to upgrade to iTunes 12?

It's only a day old as I type, so as is typical, almost all user comments I've found thus far are negative, and most of the official reviews are uninformative rehashes of Apple's press release, but from what I can discern, it's a bit snappier performance-wise, but some functionality is either missing, harder to figure out, or has to be restored via weird work-arounds (e.g. making the sidebar re-appear by selecting "playlists.")

Although I'm still an Apple guy (and just bought a new MacBook Pro with which I'm happy) I've yet to upgrade to either Yosemite or iTunes 12. Kind of put off by Jony Ive being put in charge of interface decisions when he's better suited to hardware design. Plus I've learned the value of not fixing things that aren't broken, so to speak.

Anyway ... any early adopters here have any praise, complaints, or passionate rants to share?

As far as Yosemite goes, I'm digging the new Handoff and Continuity functionality for sure. The visual changes are definitely the biggest changes since the introduction of OS X, and they take some getting used to. The change to Helvetica from Lucida Grande on all the UI stuff has been less jolting than I expected.

iTunes 12? No complaints from me. I'm not a playlists guy, so I always have it in "Artists" view, which while visually tweaked, is largely the same as it was in 11. They really need to fix the top bar of the artist sections because right now it's pulling a background color from that artist's album artwork, but when it's dark, the text that's overlaid isn't light, so it's inpossible to read on about 30% of artists.

My g/f upgraded to Yosemite. Visually I like it but the true test is functionality. She's exactly like me though and hates anyone messing on her computer so I haven't been able to play around. :(

I'm actually set to upgrade if I can find out if Audacity will work on it- since that's the program I use every day. So far I can't get conformation anywhere if it does. Been on the Audacity site and posted questions if I could record dj sets (using my vinyl) still and save them as mp3 and no one will give me a definitive answer. An Audacity rep said upgrade at your risk and tell us what you find. Fuck that! I'm no guinea pig hardware/software tester. I use my computer way too much for that shit. I think that remember playlist position in itunes was fixed BTW.
