Post Earthquakes and $4.00 gas
Whoaaa.... I think it's time to leave Chicago. This morning we had an earthquake that shook my wife and me out of bed. I thought about the movie Exorcist at first. I believe it was 5.4 on the scale? It was felt around all of IL, MO, and some of IN.
If that's not bad enough Our good city now has gas that's $4.00 gallon. Time to tune up the bike. Down with the Mayor trying to get rid of the middle class! :x

All Americans on this forum can not moan about the price of petrol until they've filled a car up in the UK...

Agreed, Although Britain has a better public transit system. Our always smells and looks like someone's urinated on them, Our Blue line trains in Chicago broke down few days ago and people were escaping thru manholes.

While I agree to an extent, I also have to point out the European cities were not set up with the automobile in mind - you folk have a much easier time getting around your cities without a car than we do in the US.

Are you talking about the same country?

The UK public transportation sucks! I was so suprised at how together it is over here. Maybe in London... Thing is though, I got so used to the convenience that when it goes to sh*t here, I can't believe it!

If you're anywhere outside of London (i.e. me!) public transport is total rubbish. Overpriced, overcrowded, doesn't run when its supposed to, to get to anywhere decent you have to change about 4 times, oh and its overpriced!

Chicago is starting to sound like San Francisco...earthquakes and $4 gas. I've slept through a few earthquakes and don't even jump when I'm awake. There isn't much you can do with when an earthquake lasts anywhere from a second to 5sec. Bigger quakes...well...that's a bit different.

Same here, having been a Bay Area dude all my life. However, after some recent ones where I just stayed in bed thinking "oh well, earthquake," I've come to question how I got to be so jaded. Thing is, at first you can't always tell if it's a big one or not, so that five seconds it might take you to get under an arch or outdoors might be well spent acting as if it's "the big one," just in case.

Yeah, but in that 5 seconds running to the door, you could miss that one thing on KT that you've been waiting for...

Seriously though. I remember an earthquake that hit Leicestershire, UK back in 2003, I thought it was a big truck driving past the house until stuff started falling off my shelves. Crazy stuff!

Yeah I didn't feel anything from the quake either...kind of disappointed.

I think the trains here are pretty good for the most part although yes, they are almost always urine soaked.

That is pretty ridiculous when you think about it. Who would want to live in Faifield in the first place? :D

Ouch!

Yeah, gas prices are killing me. With the weather getting warmer, I may start taking BART to work for the summer.

As for earthquakes, I usually enjoy them. They're kinda like rough housing, fun until someone gets hurt. Seriously, though, I need to put together an earthquake kit.

Reminds me of the official response I read a couple of years ago when people in the UK claimed that bus drivers were just waving and passing them by:

"Our bus routes cannot possibly stay on schedule if the drivers stop to pick up passengers."

Haha, I left Chicago 2 years back man, I knew those molemen would cause trouble underneath the Earth! My gas is 3.38 where I live, after reading this thread I guess I can't complain.
