Yeah, I'm with you. Everything I've seen just seems to get worse and worse (with the exception of Rorschach). And to add insult to injury, My Chemical Romance is doing the song over the ending credits. WTF?

I'm a little excited to see it. I've also been reading the comic lately, but I work in a bookstore.. so that's pretty much the best thing to read during a slow work day.

How in the hell can you fit an epic like Watchman in a 2 hour movie?

Epic, it was only a 12 issue run. Hell 300 was more epic in terms of story and that turned out amazing !

I'm amazed how many people fear the worst. Doesn't anyone just enjoy movies for being movies ?

Not every movies has to be this flawless production with the perfect movie score.

I guess this is the same reason I loved kung fu flicks. I just enjoy them for what they are instead of nit picking them.

To me this is gonna be great, pretty much no matter what.

Lets get some positive thinking people !

I totally see your point (it's an argument I make a lot myself) but I just love the hell out of this book so I was really hoping for something less "Hollywood" and more faithful. As far as "epic" goes, though, I have to agree with Deadboy - it was the whole of the thing (including the Black Freighter stuff and all of the more subtle, personal interactions) that made it as great as it is. Moore and Gibbons packed more into those 12 issues than most novelists do in a 600 page book nowadays.

this is a little different than kung fu

those flicks don't need a plot to still be entertaining

but alan moore's work is so plot heavy and character driven, if they are messed up it really makes a difference

league of extraordinary gentlemen was an awesome, original comic series. the movie LXG ......

the Watchmen changed the way comics were written. it's gotta be more than just cool looking to get the same things across

Couldn't agree more. I've never read a more layered comic and always find extra tidbits each time I read it. There is so much visual imagery to compliment the writing.

The rorschach chapter..mirror image? Read it and the whole issue is a mirror image. (the first pages echo the last till it meets in the middle) etc.

So much stuff is in the text. I also like how it's all based on the Charlaton charcters..The Question...Captain Atom etc.

And the fact that the director changed the endings kills me already.

Post Re: Watchmen
I don't think the number of issues dictates the "epicness" of the series. I'm not going to say I know about the comic world because I don't, but I've read Watchmen a few times and it's story and imagery are without a doubt epic. I think every issue could easily be an hour. 12 hours ....maybe that's a little much.
Alan Moore does not approve, but he's bat shit crazy
I'll get positive, as per your request

Sadly thought the none of the Black Freighter stuff will be in the movie from what I have heard. BUT it will be made into a short fill for the DVD release.

I'm a huge visual guy, so if I have some sort of connection the to film and it looks wild I'm almost sold. It the movie is half of what it should be I'm gonna be good.

I suppose we will all find out very soon. I did not know it will be in IMAX !!!!

Gonna look into this right away !

Here's how I feel: It will not, CAN NOT, live up to the comic. SO I'm just gonna enjoy it for what it is. If it sucks, ah well, that's that, I still have the perfection that is the comic.

Hopefully some 11 year old out there who's never heard of the Watchmen sees it, likes it, buys and reads the comic and is even MORE blown away.

Yeah, the Black Freighter stuff is going to be a separate DVD:

Cool, but what I liked about it was its resonance and reflection of what was going on in the main story. Don't know how much sense it will make out of context. To give Snyder credit, it would have been nigh on impossible to do the book completelt faithfully without, as Deadboy put it, making a 12 hour film; something that just wouldn't fly both financially and with audiences. Don't get me wrong, I'll be seeing it, but I'm more cautious than optimistic at this point.

lol, even thought I want to know, I don't want to know. And even if it sucks a surprise is still a surprise. I know how it should end so lets see how the filmed version looks.

And even though I just enjoy a movie for what its worth, I do have peeves with things being changed. If it changed because it makes more sense on screen I will at least give it the benefit of the doubt.

I'm keeping my expectations low.
But I did dig out my long white "baby coffins" in a futile search for my copy of the book.
The trailers got my pretty jazzed!!!!

I'm not excited at all, but I will still go into it with an open mind. I think it's a combination of loving the comic so much and not being a fan of Snyder. All I remember from 300 is LOTS of slow motion, and not things that really benefited from it. Add the rumored changes, and I am will probably not be there opening day.

Pretty much my point of view...V has already been ruined by Hollywood (I mean it was okay but it missed so many crucial elements) so I'm not holding out much hope, however much of a fanboy Snyder might be.

I always thought the stories leant themselves to a more series-led approach but I guess one series of 8 episodes would have an insane budget.

So low expectations hoping i'll come out not feeling like another part of my childhood has been destroyed.

i hate to say it Rich, but no movie is ever worth getting excited for especially if it's an epic comic adaptation.
